Right now i have a delima. I have found a couple TV's that i find of interest. Two of th TV's accept 1080p resolution. I would utilize the 1080p option for things other than the 360 as the become available, such as Direct TV and possibly PS3. The Sharp accepts it but not from component and the TV does not have a VGA input. The westinghouse TV has a VGA input so i can use the 360 with the 360 on 1080p. However the westinghosue has a lower brightness rating and lower contrast ratio. I could also go with the Samsung LCD or a Panasonic Plasma display. The Samsung LCD has a nice contrast Ratio (4,000:1) and has a feature that says it was designed with microsoft for gaming. The plasma would be nice because it has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio and much brighter. These both only support a max of 1080i. I know as 1080p devices become more available i would like to have the extra resolution (twice the resolution) What would you do in my situation. Here are the TV's I am considering. Dont worry about cost as i can find all four TV's for about the same price.

Id get the Sharp one that does 1080p since you are looking for a PS3 and HD-DVD or Blueray inthe future. If you are indeed planning for the future Id go with 1080p for sure. Even with our 360's MS has come out and said that the 360 will work with HDMI in the future. I think thier words were, "we will supply a HDMI cable for the 360 when the market calls for it". If you dont get one with 1080p I would at least make sure it has 720p, as that in my opinion is better then 1080i for your 360 and will work nicely with the vga cable. If I were you I would just read Scotracers lengthy faq post and make your desicion from there. Oh yeah, just be sure it has a HDMI no matter what tv you are getting so that if that copy protection crap, (I think it is HDCP?) ever comes about it will require the HDMI digital connection. Oh, also make sure the tv is marketed as HDCP ready!

Ok, this isn't an easy question to answer as there many things you should think about when purchasing a new TV, 1080p or not. If you want to decide between Plasma and LCD, or 1080p and 1080i please refer to my AV guide but to summarize:

-Plasmas are more expensive than LCD but better picture quality (including contrast ratio and brightness) but there is the probable likely-hood that burn-in will still occur.

-1080p and 1080i to the average viewer are indistinguishable between each other (if both are displayed natively) but a progressive scan image is always better for gaming than an interlaced. So, if price comes down to it, if you want to be future-proof yourself, go for 1080p but currently the technology is too expensive for my liking.

On the TV's you posted:

-The Sharp DOES have a VGA input that can accept a 1080p signal.
-The Westinghouse isn't a TV so for the money, it's not worth it.
-Both 1080i TV's you posted ARE NOT 1080i TV's, the Samsung and Panny are 1366x768 and 1024x768 progressive scan TV's respectively. So, will look worse than 1080p TV's as they can't natively display 1080i

The TV Brutality posted is a personal favourite of mine :)
It has everything you need; 1080p view component, amazing response time, great contrast ratio and brightness, VGA (RGB) input, and 2 HDMI ports for when you see the need fit.

If you have the money, I'd go with that...Samsung are currently one of the market leaders in HDTV's and the LN-series is one of the best!

I ended up getting a good deal on a Samsung LN-S4096D. It is great, 1920 X 1080 native resolution. Even with a 720p picture it looks great and does a great job of converting 1080i to 1080p. I hooked up a HD-DVD player and set it to 1080p and it looked great.

I think you mean LCD are more expensive than plasma. It its true that plasma have better brightness and contrast ratio but it still can suffer from burn in. Even though the technology for plasma has inproved, there is still the risk of burn in on them.

I have a 50" Sony Wega LCD (720p/1080i) and a 50" Sony SXRD (1080p). The SXRD cost $900 more and honestly is not worth the extra cash. The difference in picture quality is not big at all. My advice is don't worry about it. Be happy with any HDTV you can get because the 360 will look great on it.

Just throwing in my 2 cents.
Buying a plasma tv is a big bad investment. They have the shortest lifespan by far, and cost the most.. silly huh..
Both LCDs and Plasmas both have issues with high movent on screen.. they have gotten better but still are far behind traditional CRT HD tvs and DLP's.
Granted both CRTs and DLPs take up a much greater area in your room and dont have that "its so kewl it hangs on the wall" appeal, but they are both higher quality and last much much longer than LCD/Plasma.
besides u can get a 57inch 1080i CRT HDTV for like 1150 now. You cant beat that with a stick. I have the 57inch hitatchi, and its got all the needed hookups HDMI inlcuded, with a much better picture than an LCD or Plasma (which most only go up to 720p), and is way cheaper for the size, and will last much much longer.
