The game looks and plays great. I wanted to fight a Big Daddy though.

The year of the game is 1960 not 1955 like in the article.

Wow, it was a fun demo. It is so scary most of the time. I can see beating the singleplayer. What a fun game!

ooh.. my... god.. you know.. while everything wasnt perfect (i can pick out cheap tricks to save polygons too easily), it was easily one of the top games as far as graphix goes. It played solid, it kept you on the edge of your couch, and it keeps you interested too. I cant wait for the full game. Before i was eager, now im extatic!

Firstly, when I play a Demo, if I dont finish the Demo, its not good in my opinion.

Hence with Shadowrun, I quit halfway through, it didn't grab me.
With Bioshock, the intro was good. It was quite dark and a bit hard on the controls, as when you got up close and intense with a fight, you could easily over spin the thumbstick and loose sight of where hte enemy was and hitting you from. I found this took a few minutes to adjust to it. I did play the demo right through and thought it was a good game. Did I finish the demo and go oh, darn its over? No, I didn't. I did feel it was short in length, and could of thought a longer level would have been good. Plus the movie clips at the end showing the rest of the game looked very blocky, and should of been done in at least 480p or 720p prefered. I guess I will rent the game and give it a go, and maybe if I'm a hour into it, I may be able to make a better educated guess about it. In Summary, when I finished the demo, I wasn't panting in excitement and excited about it as many others were. If I played Act 1, Chapter 1 of Gears (if it were a demo), I promise you, that game left me panting for more. Hence, I'll reserve full judgement till I lay my hands on the game soon, but from a Demo standpoint, short, a little dark, and nothing majorly different in terms of any other shooter out there. Although the wrench was nice to smack people accross the head.

Again, before I get flammed for being honest, bare in mind, I am not rating the game and will play it to be fair and maybe I'll love it, but only baseing the above opinion on the demo. Cheers.

i dont understand how you thought the video sequence was blocky. I play it in 1080 and it looked phenomenal. My only grip is with the water effects in the beginning. While your swimming they look absolutely astounding. When you get out of the water and look at it, you can see its just cheap effects on the water, and the water itselfisnt really moving (like in H3). Its a small gripe by someone who can pick out effects too easily. Other than that, this game is fantastic so far.
Did you hotwire a few drones? Did you burn and electrocute everyone? The level of detail is just astounding.

The graphics were amazing and the storyline sounds good. The gameplay was HORRIBLE because of all the reasons Boost King had said and a few others. I think the storyline will cover up the bad gameplay though, in the real game.

Hi Dude,

Hey I think you misinterpreted me on the blocky graphics.
I said when your at the end of the demo, and finish it, the demo then plays these movie clips of the rest of the game etc and what to look forward too. It was this part only that was blocky.

I agree the rest of the game looked sweet, no issues or disagreeances there boys.

I will be playing the demo for a second time tonight and will re-assess it again.

The gameplay is really that horrible? I've been told that the gameplay is almost as good as the graphics if not better. Any other opinions on this?

I am sure the game would be great to play. I think all the comments made need to be restated in simple points.

Demo Length = Short
Graphics = Excellent
Ending Movie Clips = Poor (Not a factor in rating the actual game)
Controls = Mediocre
Gameplay = Great
Innovation = Minimal (ie nothing overly different from other games)
Story = Above Average
Personal Lust for More Factor (ie Me Only) = 7 / 10

All my observations above are based on Demo only. Many people thought the Forza 2 demo sucked, but the game offered so much more. Again, this could be the case without questions.

Hence I will be checking out this game when it hits. Let us all take a step back from all the hype etc etc, and asses the game on its merits. Imagine the world before internet, podcasts and everyone talking about whats to come. Games were played, then sales reflected its success if it was good. Then the name is out there. People are building games up, and making hype that OMG, Bioshock is coming, Mass Effect, Halo 3, GTA4, fine, we get it, but it doesn't instantly assure us of a huge success or assure you, the gamer that you'll share hte same opinion. We all need to personally judge the game per our own merits when it comes out. I use the example of Oblivion, it scored 9.7 or something ,everyone raved about it, except when I ran out and got it, I couldn't get into it? A flaw of the game? Hell no, more just a different taste in terms of games for me. Thats the key. Hence play Bioshock the game, and tell us your real opinions some 20 hours into it.
Also, is it true there is no Multiplayer for this game, hence its a single player experience only?

the gameplay was amazing and so were the graphics i orded the super super specail edition that cost me $125.00 that you cant preoder anymore i get a game a action figure tin case 4 keychains 2 how they made the game a poster and a bioshock faceplate and a ready for this a signed extra tin case of all the pople who made the game

boost i think your being a bit hard on the game , the demo was pretty ****ing sweet for just a demo if you think about it , and innovation-minimal, since when have you seen a game go into depth and detail into a storyline and general gameplay?Also the graphics were top-notch , looking a very solid game to me!.

Hi Oli,

I think Gears of War is the best looking game on 360. Cant comment on Halo 3 Single Player till we all get to see it, but Bioshock was not something I would say surpasses Gears. In terms of a game with a great story, well, depends on what stories you like. I've personally liked the Legend Of Zelda OOT and Secret of Mana for their story. Most view OOT as the best story and game of all time.
I did say my comments were about the demo. How can you be so overwhelmed by a story that only went for a few minutes? I think your intrigued, and want to know more of this story's early stages, however, to call it a great story is a bit premature. We can revisit this once we've played the game further.
Also, in terms of innovation in a game, well, Mario 64 was extremely innovative taking the whole 3D experience to the next level, and this game is still regarded as one of the best. I thought GOW had taken shooters to that new level and separated itself from the rest in terms of its cover system. Grand Theft pioneered the open city and roaming aspect of games. So when I see a new shooter, its competing against many other shooters that have come before it. Will Bioshock change much from the fundamental formula? I am not sure. Is Halo 3 going to be different in terms of innovation over Halo 2? Not sure as yet, till we play it. Is COD4 going to change shooters again? Now that does look extremely likely.

i think it sits right up there with gears (it is made on the same engine after all). i still dont know what you mean about the ending video, i thought it looked great. Maybe your download was corrupted somehow.

Boost sorry but i think you have to be kidding yourself if you think GOW has taken shooters to next level in the terms of storylines as myself and many would come to agreement that the storyline in GOW was pretty god damn terrible but graphically i would agree, i have seen many in depth videos on Bioshock and it concentrates on your decisions , so yes i would say that i can safely say that the game does into alot depth and detail.
