Default How to transfer my files...

I have owned my current 360 for less than 3 months. Actually, May 15th will be 3 months exactly. The 360 Elite is just in time for my 90 warranty to expire. Because of this, i'm going to trade my 360 in and put down $80+ more to get the Elite.

But the problem is:

Because of this transaction, my files with go with my 20gb hard-drive(current console). How can I get to my game saves, etc.? And then be able to reload them to my new drive/console? Will a USB thumb-drive work? And if so, how/where do I go about doing this?

Or do I have to go about the way of streaming my files over to my PC, and then re-stream them to my new console.

Any ideas anyone?

From what I understand, when you purchase the 120gb drive as an add on, it comes with a transfer cable and software...really easy, actually. But I don't think the Elite comes with the transfer cable. USB drives are read only on the 360 as far as I know, so that won't work. I have heard of an aftermarket solution typically used to access your 360 files by linking with your PC. That may work.

Good luck....many will be facing the same issue, I'm sure.

Edit: Here's some info on transferring with the cable included with the 120g HD.

I was glad to see that the 120gig HD came with a way to transfer files from your old hard drive, but I am thinking about doing the hack where you buy the hard drive and mod it to work with your 360, its costs half the price but I dont know yet if you can transfer your old files overor not. So now I am not sure what I am going to do. I will have to wait and see.

This whole "Elite" stuff angers me. The new elite isn't fixing ANYTHING. It is the same from top to bottom compared to the Premium.

The cpu is still 90nm(HOT!!!), and the disc-drives ARE NOT BenQ(still sounds like an airplane taking off). I can't believe they are putting a new console out, without even listening or fixing to any of the issues with the first two models. The 120HD is suppose to dazzle me? Well, it really doesn't. In hopes that they would fix issues with this new system... my hopes have been slashed because in fact, they haven't done a damn thing hardware wise to fix any issues. It's the same machine, with the same problems their customers have had to deal with over and over again.

If it wasn't because of M$ anti-piracy planning, and self-proprietary hardware they would be thinking towards the future of pro-choice(which they boast about). Instead, they have become even more ambitious to stop software piracy in the whole world-- so they don't feel they can't control--, to continue raking in cash by over-pricing they're proprietary hardware that only works with their products, and of course competing with Sony(which I'd say they're doing so by trying to make as much money as they can, only so they can laugh at Sony's face as a being an even bigger financial superpower-- done.)

Of course, to transfer my files I have to do some bogus stuff such as getting a cord only AFTER I have to trade my current console/hard-drive in. What good does that do me? I have to copy my files now, not AFTER the fact. And if I MUST save my files, because obviously the cord isn't going to be sent until I confirm my Elite purchase, I have to spend $40 on a memory card.

In order for me to get an Elite, I have to trade my Premium in(still within my 90 day warranty), and throw $80 more. The way I see it is that this is best time for me to do such a change, because after my 90 days are up, this premium is permanent.

AND FORGET THE $250 CREDITS YOU GET AT GAMESTOP FOR A 360. They have always been ridiculous as far as trade-ins go.

So how do you transfer files from your old 20GB hard drive to your new Elite 120Gb hard drive safely and correctly?

I want to sell my old xbox to buy a new one and can't sell it without the 20GB hard drive
