I'm the Techie in the house, and I'm retired. My sons, both in their thirties, are trades professionals, and they are the Xbox officianados. That means we meet in the middle when it comes to passing through the gateway. I've been ripping my hair out when it came to floating Xbox IPs and Netgear's DOS-like NAT settings. Netgear won't let me set a range that allows both of their Xbox NATs to open. So I told one that the other bought the 8-way router so he gets the dibs on open.
But still -- that damn floating IP problem that means I have to tell him to check so I can reset the router... Duh

He finally let me talk to an Xbox person (he has this adolescent thing about letting people know he lives at home while he saves for a house) so I can talk turkey with someone who actually knows what I'm talking about. Bingo -- When the ports are set to UPD/TCP 88-3704 on the router, the IP can be held stable right through his own settings manually through his Xbox. And better still, both Xboxs can be set to the same IP, so now both boxs will be open. Now since I never play the Xbox (carpal tunnel don't do those controllers), I wouldn't really know that.
You guys gotta be kinder on us old gals that must maintain peace and harmony -- especially my own -- in the household. Include this stuff in your manuals in the setup section. My sons actually read them.
