Ill agree that having your screen a bit smaller while playing is awkwards... but being able to play with a friend without being online is awesome... especially when working together.

I can't stand split screen either. But yes, it is fun when you are teamed up with a friend on Live.

Meh, splitscreen with Vegas was great. I'm not bothered by splitscreen at all, but my TV is large enough to handle it. I can't see doing it on a screen under 27-32"

I have a 42 inch and still get irritated by SS play. It screws up my entire line of sight and I feel like I'm lacking peripheral vision. However, after a few good logged hours it's not such a nuisance that it originally was. I suppose it grows on you ... a little.
