Posts: 456 | Are you under warranty if you buy a used 360? Say if i was to buy a 360 off of ebay and i knew it was already broken, could i send it in for microsoft to repair? i was thinking a good way to make money would be to buy a broken 360 send it in for repair and sell it for a lot more than you paid for it. what do you guys think? |

Posts: 1,579 | If it has a RRoD failure then it's covered by the 3 year warranty. They sell used consoles at Gamestop/Eb and they are covered.
On a side note: The previous "lifetime" warranty that MS gave on all 360's made in 2005 has been downgraded to the standard 3 year warranty plan. |

Posts: 5,094 | I don't think it was ever a "lifetime warranty". It was stated by Peter Moore as a 3 year extended warranty. |

It depends on what's happened to the console. If it's RROD it will be covered, surely. |

Posts: 456 | so i could buy a bunch of broken 360's for cheap continue to have them fixed and then sell them on ebay as refurbished? broken 360's go for about 80 bucks and refurbs sell for about 300. i figured i would use the profits to buy a ps3 |

Posts: 1,579 | When the rings first started to get widespread they upped the 90 day to a full year then they said '05 consoles would have lifetime warranty. Now it has the standard 3 year. |

Posts: 828 | Those broken consoles are on ebay for a reason mate.
Yes the console could have RROD. But they could also be modded, or opened up and tampered with, and hence MS will most likely not fix them.
You would be smart to obtain the serial number of a potential console, and call MS to verify theres no issues with buying that console.
They could also be barred consoles as well.
Again, why would you sell a RROD console, when you can get it repaired for free completely from MS? I dont understand, it definately sounds shonky.

Posts: 5,094 | I'm not advocating any members do this but I know a few friends who busted out the towel trick and traded it in to GS for a another. No problems no questions asked. It worked while they tested the unit and once they were satisfied it worked they all received brand new replacements. |

You have no way of knowing the history of the unit. It could be banned from live or it could have been modded or had the case cracked open, etc etc etc. Microsoft has a file on each Serial Number to track the Ownership and Repair history of each one so I have this odd feeling that you would end up losing money in your scheme when you have 10 units at the Microsoft Repair center and they tell you that 9 of them are NOT covered under warranty and so you Owe them $200 on Shipping and $1,200 on repair costs.....

Posts: 828 | Towel Trick Instructions.
Grab a towel, soak it in boiling hot water.
Wrap the towel around your head.
Go to sleep, wake up around 8 hours later,
Hopefully you will have some sense to not do this scam.
