Is Vista a Mistake?

Now that Windows Vista is out it feels like every game that comes out for xbox 360 and Vista. I think it gives people a reason not to buy a 360. You could buy Vista at my College bookstore for $10 and a xbox 360 controller for $50. For just $60 I could play almost evey 360 game besides Halo 3 with a 360 controller. Should Microsoft close the Vista gaming division so that if a PS3 owner wants to play the great games on 360 they just can't buy Vista. Force them to buy a 360 you'll get a lot more sales.

I'm confused. The title and the poll suggest the Vista as an operating system may be a mistake, but your thesis discusses 360 ports to Vista. Which way are you going with this thread and poll?

Well, as far as I know not EVERY single game is for windows vista. The only game I know of for vista is shadowrun. So like Karma I'm not too sure where your going with this conversation.

If PS3 owners want to play a game on their Vista PC, they are more than welcome to. It's still Microsoft. M$ allowed Vista to combine with the Xbox Live community. This isn't a bad thing, it's only going to make our community that much stronger. And the fact that they even came up with an idea like this shows you how much M$ wants to extend their service to every possible avenue & person who wants to take advantage of it.

as far as gaming goes, vista WILL be good, once they fix all the inherant problems with this system sucker.
as far as that goes, BUYING vista right now IS a mistake. Unless it comes free with your computer, or u want the extended media center capabilities, dont worry about buying it. That said, if you do buy it, you better have a new and powerful computer.

athalon64 3400+
1.5 GIG OCZ PLAT rev2
bfg OC geforce 6800pro
audigy2 soundcard.
550 ati theater pro tv card

and the mutha freaker chugs along at a snails pace. Under XP, nothing would slow it down even with tv, music, games, exlorer going at the same time.. under vista, if i even turn on the tv tuner, everything else is unplayable... and turning on mp3's nearly does the same thing.
if you dont have to upgrade.. dont.

College students can get MS software dirt cheap. I used to get the professional editions of Windows and Office for $10 each.

Whilst Vista is designed as a "Gaming OS" it still has several problems compared with XP and the game consoles....

IT'S A WHORE FOR SPECS!

I recently upgraded my PC (which according to 3DMark06 is in the top 75% of all PC's in the world) to Vista and I got a 4.5 on the performance rating system

It said my RAM was poor even though it's DDR2 PC5300. What the hell?!

So, I upgraded to 2Gb of DDR2 PC8500 (1066Mhz beastly stuff) and got a great deal on it. So when it arrives I'll let you all know how it improves things.

So there we go, the moral of the story; Vista can allow you to play 360 games but with the price it costs to upgrade...will it affect 360 sales? I doubt it.

I've been going to the wrong school then. Maybe I can find it cheap when I transfer, even though I don't think I want it.

vista will be fine after the first service pack comes out. just be patient. im sticking with xp for the mo, it does all the stuff i need it to. im only going to upgrade if i buy a new computer.

scott, it dont give a crap what speed it is, only how much it is.
U know how poor i got rated for my puter.. i jsut ordered a core2duo computer from dell, so ill let ya know about the performance ratings

and as a gaming OS, its slower than XP.. not very good there huh..
seems like we have another "Mellinium" edition on our hands

Well if it went on how much it was, it would only have a few ratings not a scale from 1-10 in 0.1 increments, wouldn't it?

It determines it as "Memory Operations per Second" so obviously the faster the speed, the higher the rating

And yes, I agree that Vista is the "Mellinium" (nice spelling lol) edition of recent times.
