Being the car buff that I am, I heard recently about Codemasters latest game they are working on, which is close to being released. Its called Grid. Just wondering if any one has heard much about it.
Seems to not be getting much hype at the moment. Seems GTA4 is stealing all the thunder.
I downloaded the trailer and saw some clips on a web site, it looked amazing to be honest.

Posts: 1,548 | Is this game to be more like burnout type, and less sim type? personally, i don't like sim racing to much, i'm not good enough so i crash all the time, so i usually dig the arcady type racing games...i crash a bit less.

Posts: 670 | OOoops, I didnt see this thread and made another with the same name. They can delete mine, I hope. Yeah, I am waiting with baited breath for this one. And btw, in my opinion, DIRT was fantastic fun!!!!! Only thing missing was good multi-player where it needed it and GRID will have 15 car online races. Im stoked because all I care about is fun and not just sim!!
GT5p is a joke to me as a sim anyhow until it gets full damage, which is coming and will make that game great. Until then WTF is all I can say when I see a crash in that game. Im sure GT5 will cause me to purchase a PS3 finally (been ready to buy one forever but waiting for a reason, any at all).
Oh, BTW, demo is reported to be here May 5 or 6, whenever they normally come out!

If you want damage in GT5, the race will end as soon as you crash - which is what happens in real life. Not like in games where you can still finish 1st with only one wheel still on.
GT5 is where its at. Believe.

GT5 is where its at. Believe. | Sorry to disagree but damage, wear and part failure happen in every race. If you're going to label your game a "sim" then there had better be damage modeling. If nothing else it will help keep the 12 year old online twits in check. |

Posts: 3,070 | Console games are consoles games. PC sims are sims.
It's quite funny how a PC game from 4 years ago has:
Very sophisticated physics system (better than any console "sim")
Full damage modeling
Component wear and failure
Tyre grip temperature dependent and overheating possible
Full race strategy
Full race weekend (free practice, qualifying, race)
Races as long as you want them to be
Infinite cars on track (I've ran 150 cars but after that I hit my bottleneck - RAM)
Full setup changes (everything up to brake disc thickness, radiator size, engine braking mapping etc)
Number of cars: >2000 (mods)
Number of tracks: 450 (on one website alone)
Everything from F1, to Racing Supertrucks to go-karts to Citroen Berlingo racing
...and all for £17.99 (all mods are free and so is online)
rFactor FTW ^_^

Posts: 2,957 | DiRT was a hell of a lot of fun. There's nothing wrong with arcade style racers, especially on a console where you just want to pick up and play. |

| Exactly, dont crash. Try that game and dont crash, you will go slower, you'll post a real time, the same as you should get. Even then there is no wear. Its just not sim but there damage system is coming and Im stoked. You will have to stay off the walls and other cars if you want to win. And trust me on this one, you wont be able to win with 1 wheel gone in GRID. Codemasters has never allowed that.
I had many hours of fun in DIRT, but Karma, could you imagine the fun online with buddies racing those staduim trucks or buggys. Hell, any of the multi-car races included in that game with friends would have been a rukos good time.
AMEN to Sotracer, where the heck is my console sim. I love sim even though I also love to have a good time racing a semi arcade racer that does so well with pack racing and includes fantastic AI that battles. LOVE IT LOL. I miss the original TOCA though.

Me and you just rate damage and wear at a different level of importance. I think we agree mostly. Ive just heard over and over from race drivers that its all about the tires and keeping the car from blowing up and as clean as possible. Alot of these lower level race cars need to be driven with some tender care because you can flat wear them out. Im just saying thats the part of sim I enjoy the most and I will have trouble containing myself if GT5 includes it. (again though, Im not saying GRID will include all this and that it is even in the sim catagory)
I think Forza is pretty good and I know this will make an uproar but NASCAR includes a crazy in depth tuning system with great wear, too bad it can be boring and not what I want to play much.

Posts: 1,855 | I agree that damage/wear is important but what you have to remember is that GT5 P is just a taster of what the full game will be. But with driving physics the like that GT5 has, its not essential for my enjoyment. I very rarely crash anyway.
I agree that NASCAR is boring. I'd rather play pimp my ride than NASCAR, at least you have corners.
Forza 2 was a great game but it had no depth, I got bored of it very quickly. That game desperately needed more tracks to race on.

I really hate sims they are so boring. Driving a Fiat panda around for a few hours til you get enough cash for something decent is just not fun
