Good choice with Viva Pinata. It's very addictive and fun for all the family (not that i'd know much about that subject).

In terms of actual games, i'd get her something like Kameo or maybe even Sonic the Hedgehog. They're quite appealing games for someone who doesn't have that much experience with recent games. Most of the other Xbox 360 titles are shooters which wouldn't go down too well, I think.

Another few possible candidates are Amped 3 and Project Gotham Racing 3. The Amped series has never really inspired me, but I decided to take a risk by buying the third title because of an article I read in a magazine and I didn't regret it for a second. It's a snowboarding game but it's fairly easy to control and the humourous elements are just OTT hilarious. The game doesn't take itself very seriously, but the humour is definately hit-or-miss. Most love it, some hate it. Project Gotham Racing 3 is probably one of the best racing titles out there in my eyes. It's not too realistic and not too arcadey. There's a good balance and online, it's probably the friendliest title you'll ever play with. I've never had any problems with anyone in it. Something I can't say about the majority of titles these days. Definately a possible Live candidate if you're considering going online.

As for the Arcade, if you're relatively retro you'll probably recognise most of the titles. From Robotron 2084 to DOOM, there's plenty of classics on there.

If I was you i'd go with:

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (addictive, easy to play and beautiful)
Marble Blast Ultra (something a little bit different)

Hope i've helped!

Fusion Frenzy 2. Basically it is a Mario Party-ish game that is fun for everyone even on a simplistic or challenging level.

Also, check out the +40 games on Xbox Live Arcade. Feeding Frenzy is a hit with my wife, along with Zuma, Bejeweled, Jewel Quest, Lumines and others. Plus, you can preview them before you buy. So download a dozen or so, see which ones your wife likes, then purchase the full meal deal.

Default A couple other suggestions...

Okay, obviously it's after Christmas but in case you were still looking for suggestions, I thought I'd weigh in. I'm a "wife" who loves video games. My husband doesn't play at all. It's all me. I do have and love Call of Duty 3... Gears of War... Splinter Cell DA... and all those, but I'm thinking that shooters aren't the ones that are going to interest your wife so...

My recommendation is Tomb Raider: Legend. I'm surprised no one else has recommended this. While I love my shooter titles, Tomb Raider is probably my favorite. I've been playing the series since the PC. I don't know if it's because I'm a girl, but the variety in it is what I love about these. There's exploring... there's puzzles... there's adventure... some shooting... just enough of everything to keep it enjoyable. And you actually get to play as a girl! As a girl gamer in a largely guy gamer world, opportunities like that are welcomed.

And for one other suggestion, Buffy the Vampire Slayer for classic XBox (it is now compatible on the 360). What I love about this one (aside from being a Buffy fan) is the fact that you get to beat the crap out the vampires. It's amazing how much of a stress-reliever it can be to beat something up instead of just shooting all the time. This one may or may not be of interest to your wife. (oh, and do note, I'm talking about the first Buffy game, not the 2nd one "Chaos Bleeds")

And if you had a PS2 (is that okay to say here? ), I would whole-heartedly recommend Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. It's a great Mario-type title and one of my most favorite games ever.

I have a non-gamer wife an all the games she likes are the easy to pick up an play games. I got her a ds an now she is addicted to tetris...also on xbox arcade she loves the puzzle games and and a lot of the easier to control games...such as geo wars and all the puzzle games. an if its in the budget I would say get a wii. my wife loves the raving rabbids!
