Best fighting game?

Ok... so I finally decided between the 3 consoles and got the best

Now... since I basicly play sports, racing and fighting games (for now at least) and I made the transition from PS land to Xbox country I am asking those of you who are more knowledgable than me, what fighting game do you recommend? (keep in mind Tekken franchise as benchmark).

I got my 360 3 days ago... I purchased these items following the sale clerk's suggestion

Need for Speed Carbon
Gears of War (he really pushed this one and convinced me saying I will like it, even if I don't follow the genre... haven't touched it yet, but will soon)
NBA 2K7
MLB 2K7
FIFA
WWE Samckdown (already regretting this one!)
DOA 4 (this i like a lot!)
Forza Motorsport 2 (it's cool, although not as challenging as GT)

So what do you guys recommend?

Dead or Alive 4 is really the only fighting game out right now. I'd say its on par with Tekken, and because its older, its dirt cheap. Soul Caliber is coming soon.

Edit: Crap, I guess you already have DOA4. My bad. Welcome to the site.

As I have been reading on the site reviews and such, seems the sales guy was pretty accurate about the sentiment of the good games... I mean this Gears of War thing seems to be by concensus pretty great... I'll check it out tonight... heck, maybe there's an RPG gene hidden in me somewhere... ha, ha, ha.

DOA is pretty cool yes, the moves are good... but the game loks a bit dated to me... and not terribly original... kind of like a Tekken ripoff... but it is cool and dynamic, and the characters are somewhat matched... but Xbox people, we NEED FIGHTING GAMES!!!!!!!!!!... I mean this Smackdown thing the guy gave me after my insistence of finding fight games is not cutting it... and the guys at the office want KOs! MK/Tekken style.

Yes I got it for the office... we run a liberal shop here.

DOA is a great game. islandpopper. There is that new VIRTUAL FIGHTER 5 coming out for the xbox 360. Its already better looking than the PS3 version. Xbox360fanboy.com is also a great site to get infomation tho.. And keep in mind that theres plenty of fighting games for Xbox live acarde

. lol but i have to admit tho. There not releasing many fighting games for consols right now

Def Jam : icon (this one is ok, but i liked the other ones better)
Super street fighter II turbo HD remix (comes out later this year, xbla)
Ultimate Mortal kombat 3
Virtual fighter 5 (not released)
Dead or alive 5 (not released,TBA)
Street fighter II' hyper fighting (xbla)
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 360 (not released)
Dead or Alive Code: Cronus (not released, tba)
Garou Densetsu Special (not released, xbla)

theres a couple more, but i wouldnt consider them fighting games.
theres also great cheap XBOX (current gen) fighting games.. Like marvel vs. capcom.. games of those nature

Wao thanks!... Soul Caliber... I know that one... an old arcade version was called Soul Edge... with cool weapons and characters... I like that one a lot!... Virtuafighter also... and MK is just necessary!
