Sometimes people say something just to test the reaction, if they get a reaction from people that entertains them they will continue with that statement/arguement for their own amusement. By recognizing that this is happening and stepping beyond it you can defuse their game and transcend the arguement. |

Bioshock is a great game but a lack of any co-op or online MP prevents me from jocking its knob like Elder. I thought you "got over" Bioshock? At least that's what you said in the SB. |

Cant see any reason why there cant be any online MP tho, that would be absolutly awesome!

Posts: 828 | Guys, a bit of a technical game question here, and also a attempt to shift this conversation back to the actual game!
When playing Bioshock, sometimes when I walk into a area, that say I've already been in and killed someone, when I go back, there bodies are like all smooth. Then a half second later, it loads the textures on the character. Its also happening on parts of the scenery as well.
Has any one else experienced this? Is it the game, or my 360 again being slow?
Also, is it a good idea to blank my HDD and or reformat it to improve speed?

Posts: 5,094 | It's a common problem with all Bioshock copies. I'm sure Scotty would be better able to give you the technical reasons as to why. |

Posts: 2,396 | the 360 doesnt load the textures fast enough. Its not just a bioshock problem, but an extreme detail problem. Could UT3 engine help render the details faster/better... maybe, but noone of us are techs w/ that Many games share the same problem on super high detail screens. Its something you may not normally notice, but it happens quite frequently on high res
games.

Posts: 2,464 | i noticed something similar on cod3...walking along a brick wall. looks great right near your guy, but if you look a couple 'feet' out, you see it just as bricks without all the pot marks and shading. and as you walk you can see it 'fill in' as you move a long.
yeah, but i did see the texture suddenly appear when i first start the game, but i didn't notice it as i went along after that. |

Posts: 828 | Cool, I was just more worried if it was a game issue or a 360 problem, ie my 360. If others have experienced it, then I can rest easy.
as stated in other topic, my 360 has been a bit slow and I'm fearing red rings soon enough, so hitting the panic button. Please dont die the day I get Halo 3, I just know its going to happen.

Posts: 792 | I only get this problem when i use explosives against Turrets or Security bots. their wreckage can drop to the ground without textures for 1-3 seconds. Also half the time I harvest a little sister the parasite will be there wiggling without any texture for 1-3 seconds. i havn't encountered any problem with the actual environment not texturing fast enough. |

I just thought there were two types, the ones with the red dot things on, and the others which are just smooth and grey.
I did notice some slight glitches when playing the game, only small things like when I approached a door, the textures did not load for a few seconds. Nothing major, and it doesnt effect how much fun the game is.

Posts: 2,396 | ive never had any real upclose issues, just when i barge into a larger room sometimes, it takes a second or so for some of the stuff to load up.
Just as an FYI, make sure your 360 isnt getting hot. If you havent dusted your vent fans in a while do so. The hotter the system gets the slower it will run.

Posts: 792 | I never used the tonic that lets you run faster. mabye when you're running faster you are more apt to run beyond the 360s ability to texture within the parameters of Bioshock..... or mabye clearing the cache would let it optimize it;s texture load times?? i'll try it out. |

Posts: 903 | Bioshock is a great game, I just wish it was a bit longer. Alot of the new games coming out are just to short. I would like more out of my games for the price.

The reason in my opinion its not perfect is due to the lastability factor.
Back in the day when games were reviewed, the were made up of:
Graphics
Sound
Difficulty
Lastability
It seems these days that you can score a near 10/10 ie Bioshock without performing well in the Lastability category. I think Gears of War was a 10 for lastability because of its amazing online component.
That doesn't mean by not having online equates to a low lastability score. Take Shadowrun, its 100% online, but its not got a great lastability factor because the game pretty much sux.
Hence my point is, lastability should be based on how much replay value a game has and its ability to keep you coming back for many months.
Bioshock does not have this lastability factor. Already, only 2 weeks (or not even) since its launch people have finished it some 3 or 4 times and its pretty much done with. I dont think this game needed a online component, but maybe larger worlds with harder objectives could have extended the life of the game.
Either way it rocks, a solid effort, just wish like everyone one that it was longer. |
