Not surprised with everyone rating it 10/10.

I do agree that it would be nice to see a 9.5 or something...I can't imagine it's 'perfect'-

Even IGN gave it a 10 which they havent given to a console game in 9 years its average score on game rankings is 99.3% so all the reviews arent perfect

Rabbit has a point here...can perfection be achieved? If you make a perfect game, would anything else be playable?

look...a perfect score doesn't mean it's ABSOLUTLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. It is a score given to a game that has brought something new to the video gaming world. It has improved other areas to a degree where it is so noticeable that you wonder why it hasn't been done before. The game, as a whole, is an experience that can't be comparable to any other game without considering comparison as an insult...so to speak. It's a game that you know will be used as a pinnacle for the various components of a video game for the future (until the next big thing comes along). And you know that it is a classic the second you played it.

I could cite a few games off hand that meet such criteria but never managed to get as many published "10's" as GTA IV has. In all of my gaming I have never played a "10" game. However, since I will not be playing GTA IV for another hour or so I'll judge the merits of its score once I play it. I have never been persuaded or dissuaded to purchase a video game based on reviews.

I understand what you are saying, rage. But i don't think a game can be perfect based on doing several things, out of many, very good.

It also depends how the rater explains his scores; what they are based on. I have read some magazines that say they will never give 10's out, because a perfect game is unachievable. Other ratings, like you stated, may give a perfect score because the game brought something new to the table (which doesn't always help it, like turning point).
i guess when taking a rating from something, especially a publication, one must understand how they rate and what the scores mean. All reviews end up being subjective and share the bias of the rater, regardless if how objective they attempt to be.
But all ratings are out the window once the gamer plays it, as it ultimately comes down the player on what kind of score it should receive, like Kona said. I like some games that haven't got very good ratings, and enjoyed them, and vice versa, have not like some games that have received very high scores.
