Posts: 5 | NHL O7 or 2K7??? Thought I would start a thread about this since me and so many of my friends get in a fight about it every year NHL 07 or NHL 2K7. Soo put your choice and thoughts and why you like it better.

Posts: 909 | totally different games shane. im usually a 2k fan, but after playing the short but sweet shootout demo, im thinking of switching teams. ive been hearing that 2k7 still hasnt capitalized on the 360's hardware and we can expect current gen graphics in this one just like in 2k6. on the other hand, 07's graphics are amazing, and the new controls are great but only once you get used to them which will take a bit as ive found. Has anyone played the 2k7 demo? Im wondering what its like but i wont have a chance till late tonight so feedback on it would be great.

Posts: 204 | Well I played both demos...
What can I say... Well the 2K7 is kinda weird...The game begins with this intro where the players are leaving the locker room with their coach telling them what to do, and all that with some movie "Call-of-duty-esque" music...WTF ... And it goes on during the game?!? Anyway, the graphics are so-so.
It's really weird. I remember reading a post on teamxbox saying that the feel was more like watching a hockey movie instead of living the game...and that's EXACTLY how I felt playing it...Well at least they made a demo where you actually play a game...The controls ,IMO, weren't that great...
NHL07 demo was much better...the new controls really give you a feel of what you're doing with the puck. Flicking the right analog stick from down to up from slapshot is pretty cool IMO... Graphics seem great (on close-ups, I could practically feel the socks, clothes and stick textures!!! ), but it would have been better to see how the usual game view looks and plays...
For the time being, credit goes to EA...

Posts: 182 | EGM just blasted the 2K series this year in their review.
EA's got a 7.5, 8.0, 8.0, while the 2K got a 6.0, 6.0,6.5.
They said the new control scheme for NHL07 is fantastic. I love what they said about the switch of games too something like
"what happened in this dog marries cat world where EA's is actually simmier then the 2K one for a change" |

"what happened in this dog marries cat world where EA's is actually simmier then the 2K one for a change" | For real ??? You read both reviews in the magazine??? Cool...I was really aiming towards NHL07 after playing both demos...
I read the NHL07 review on IGN and they thought it was really great also...Only prob is that they could have done better online-wise.
Since I've tried both demos I've been aching to get one of them. Dunno what's happening to me. I spent all my childhood watching hockey occasionally in Canada (represent!) without really being hooked by the sport... Now suddenly I feel like I missed out on something and the canadian nostalgia is grabbing me (I live in France now)...I'm about to buy my first hockey game !!! I've played some in the past, but never had one...
Now I live too far away to get to see actual NHL games
Let's see if 07 keeps the lead on all major review sites !

Posts: 182 | The online part (couldn't get on) and franchise mode (2K is a bit deeper) is the reason EGM knocked it down a bit.
I've always been a big fan of the 2K series, better gameplay typically. But from trying both demos and reading several sites, it really does seem that EA's is actually better this year.
I've preordered it. I am eager to try out the new control scheme. I do love how the revamped boxing with the Fight Night controls. And it looks really good graphics wise.
the 2K one, not so much. |

Posts: 204 | Oh boy !!! IGN and Gamespot just reviewed 2K7 !!! IGN Advertisement Game Rankings - External Link
I'm pretty surprised by these reviews (especially IGN)...IMO hockey is also about atmosphere, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that EA has the upper hand on that. And let's not forget they have a killer skill-stick gameplay !!! NHL07 = original Gameplay + atmosphere; how on earth could 2K7 have a better score ?? Is it because of the online capabilities ? If that's the only thing, I tell ya I choose gameplay and atmosphere over that...

Posts: 182 | Well, after reading the reviews and the message boards, you really can't go wrong with either one.
The 2K is updated with better graphics, the gameplay is smooth and slick as ever, with great online play. Plus you can turn off the music.
The Ea one has a great new control scheme, bare bones online, great graphics, and the awesome team of Thorne and Clement commentating.
I've played the 2K series for years, but this year I am going to get the EA one, just for something different. |

Posts: 909 | Just got NHL 07. Amazing game. New controls in the game (not in shootout demo) work really nicely. Im lovin it. I traded in Kameo, Oblivion and Perfect Dark Zero for it and dont regret it one bit.... maybe its because im Canadian and Hockey is in my blood, lol. Anyways, I stick with my vote and am behind 07 all the way even though both look good (its the new controls that got me hooked!)

Posts: 182 | Ok, after playing this (nhl07) for a while since thu, I think it's one of the best Hockey games I've ever played. The control scheme is frickin' great! Tough to go back to the buttons after getting used to it. Great graphics, very nice gameplay, and really fun. I've played the 2K one too, it's a great game as well. I prefer the EA one (wow, never thought I'd ever say that), simply for the new controls. |
