Posts: 117 | Originals on Xbox live Has anybody else been to the game store lately? Tell me why you would want to pay 1200 pts on Xbox live when you can get most of these games for 10$ or under, just got psychonauts for 9$. Also you don't have to use who knows how much of your hard drive to play them. I mean it sounds cool to be able to get them off Xlive but really how practical is it? |

Posts: 828 | I dont see the point unless they have some sort of upscaling.
I'll explain.
I have a XBox with about 20 games.
I have a LCD TV.
When I connect my Xbox 1 to my LCD the games look terrible, they actually look better on a normal CRT TV. After speaking to many techies it was soon explained that the native res on my LCD is like 1366 x 768 lines vs a CRT which is like 300 lines or so. So every line coming into my LCD is essentially being doubled to fit my LCD, hence why it looks blurry, and colors are washy.
If you've got a LCD and you've plugged up your old console, you'll know what I mean.
Hence I've heard the XB1 downloads are 100% original, so I am guessing its no different than putting the XB1 title into my actual 360, so its not going to magically appear to be any better.
I also think 1200 points is rich but maybe not so bad for games that you cant find anymore.

Posts: 4,837 | yeah i'm not paying 1,200 points for an old game that i could get for less somewhere else and also i'm not going to the expense of buying a 120gb hdd so that i can play old games, it's a nice thought but i'm not buying into it

Posts: 78 | I'll just look at it as another nice option to have for people who may not have owned or played the OG Xbox. If the price was cheaper I may be tempted but it really doesn't make sense when I can go to 8 different stores in a 5 mile radius and buy them on the cheap. What I'm wondering is if this is in response to fans wanting to download old xbox games.

Posts: 828 | I've been talking to a few friends on Xbl, and we were talking about the new Xbox Originals for download. Given the majority of 360's are all Pro's, its fair to say then the majority of 360 owners have the 20GB HDD. The 20GB model has only 13GB free out of the box (well it did when I got mine). So after having some profiles, game saves, some Arcade games and DLC, most people have around 10GB free. Think now, we all get some game demos, usually a GB a piece. My younger bro for instance has 4 demos, and has 6GB free. We downloaded Halo 1, which was like 2.3 GB in size or something. Essentially he is going to have a space problem very very soon.
Imagine living is the US and having a Video Marketplace, you'll already be approaching the limits of the HDD with a Movie weighing in at 4 gigs or so.
I think if MS wants to push this market, we need to start letting MS know that we would all like the 120GB HDD, but the pricing point is utterly ridiculous, even by comparason to any model HDD out there, its just way to costly. Maybe MS should consider a 60GB HDD for purchase say at half the price of the 120GB, so say assuming the 120GB is $180 US, then make it $90US. Its allot more easy on the wallet than $180US.
What are your thoughts on this? For me I am not fussed as I sold my Pro, added the difference and bought the Elite purely for the Hard Drive and HDMI. So I have oodles of space, but my concern is for the other 360 owners who will all be facing space issues, and in the other corner I am concerned for MS because people may not use the service because of the space limitations etc. Sure you can DL the games as many times as you like, but, lets face it thats not really economical from a time perspective as well as a cost on most peoples internet plans and or usage allowances.
Thoughts?

Boost | They keep dropping the price of the HD DVD player but they ain't budging on that HDD. That's pretty crazy. |

Boost | I'm not sure that's an issue everywhere. Broadband here is sold at a flat rate based on bandwidth, not usage. I haven't heard of usage allowances in 10 or 15 years, when internet access was still mostly dial-up. At the most it's going to take me about 20 minutes to download a game like Crimson Skies, so if I have to delete it and redownload it, I'm not going to be bothered by it. I find that more convenient than changing discs, since I'm not likely to delete it until I am utterly bored with it.

Posts: 4,837 | damn you karma, it's still taking me about 12 - 15+ hours to download something that size! LOL
i can't wait until i get back home where i have real high speed!
and yeah if then dropped the price of the 120GB HDD to $90 US which would be about £45 over here (obviously we wouldn't get it that cheap...) but if it did happen to be that price i'd definately buy it but only when i had faster internet, it's really a waste at the moment as it took me way over an hour to download even a trailer lol
and did you say over 4 gig for an HD movie?!!! jesus christ uni will be overwith by the time i get one! lol

| | | I download HD films from interweb, they're usually 8-12GB on average. I can get literally any HDDVD/BR film I want and hook it up to HDTV via VGA. so I will not be using VMP, and looking at prices for a 'rent' Im glad.
And as for the xbox games, I think MS are taking the piss. Not is it that the games are about €2 in bargain bins, or free from a mate(1200ms points MS are charging works out at like €14) but they still have all the bugs and glitches the games had years ago when they could be first played on the 360.
People are morons. | |

Posts: 828 | All internet in Australia comprises of 2 parts.
- Speed, ie ADSL 1 or 2, 1.5MBps through to 25Mbps. Tops!
- Data, ie as low as 200MB through to 10GB, 20GB, 40GB, 60GB depending on the plan.
I'm with Telstra (largest phone company in Australia) and I am on ADSL 2+ and I get 20Mbps down and 1Mbps up and I only get 12 GB of data per month for $90 Aussie dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So for us its a problem, first for speed issues, then data issues and finally price! We just get screwed.
Joel, Jake, I think I may end up moving to the USA, any particular state I should choose being a family man and all?

| I have around 10 arcade titles, plenty of game saves, themes, and pics and still have 12gb of free space. The VMP movies are rent only so thats only a temporary save, demos should be temp as well, and any TV shows you download you could delete and redownload again for free. I don't see a major problem (unless you never delete old items your HD). |

I think you may be comparing your speed to high end gamers and not the average joe boost, Australia isnt that far behind Europe and some parts of the US/Canada at all. | |

Posts: 828 | Thanks for that, that was some usefull information there.
So then if we ain't that bad, then why did MS say Australia cant get VMP for the sole reason our internet is ""too slow"?
Thats the real question.
Also, Malo, will I be able to drive my Right Hand Drive Skyline in the USA? If not, then I'm staying.
