Posts: 515 | 4 New Gears of War Maps Epic released 4 new maps= 800 MS Points: Bullet Marsh, Garden, Process, and Subway. I haven't personally paid or played these maps, but I am surprised nobody has even posted about it on here yet.
Check out this information listed on the Gamespy.com website: Quote:
Gamespy.com - This Thursday, May 3, a map pack titled Hidden Fronts will be made ready for download on Xbox Live. It will contain four new multiplayer maps. The first is titled Bullet Marsh. This devious map takes place in a swamp infested with those razorblades on wings known as Kryll. Fortunately, the area is lit by a generator. Unfortunately, the generator is old and can be easily knocked out, which can make staying alive a difficult endeavor for anyone caught in the dark.
The next map is called Garden. It features a greenhouse with a working pesticide system. Unlucky players will most likely find out that insect poison is also people poison. Process is a map that takes place in an active underground Imulsion plant. The final map, Subway, is set in Timgad's Central Subway station. It's a subway hub with plenty of tunnels to hide ugly Locusts.

Posts: 106 | The bullet marsh is...how should i put it...****ING AMAZING! the thing i admire most about these maps is the way it makes you take cover. there are many sandbags and pillars and bricks that almost pressure you to play it like the single player.
Bullet Marsh is almost territorial, since both sides are essentially equal, and it's a snipers paradise. out of 16 kills, i got 9 headshots in a 7 rounder. the rest were boomshot kills and shotgun kills. all of my it also allows you to try to flank the other team, but if the team is paying attention, it's sort of futile. there is a boomshot in the middle of the two "territories" that a brave soul could go for if not afraid of sniper fire. to counter the sniping, there is a smoke grenade pickup right by the boomshot, so they can make a clean escape if lucky. the kryll effect works perfectly, without actually killing you per say, unless no one is there to revive you. Graphically, it's the most impressive map I've seen to date, with rain effects that make the mansion pale in comparison.
Garden is just hectic, especially with the hammer of dawn. if you can get the hammer before the other team starts going for their sniper buttons, you can take them out in the process. Graphically i wasn't too impressed with this map, since it's a little garish, but the amazing amounts of cover adds a whole different element to the game. chainsaws galore!
Process is a little different from the rest, with a strange neon powder blue hue throughout, with touches of bright yellow imulsion. The torque and boom seem to be the hot spots, but boom beware! It leaves you pressed up against a wall if you go at it alone, and with a torque on the other side of the fence, you can get stuck through it. I'd say it's closer to the old maps, since it is just the standard run for the weapons and shotgun, more or less. Lots of cover here as well, and a sniper if you like. Not my favorite, but it's still enjoyable.
Subway is basically escalation with bigger guns, and a harder run to the top. Boomshot, torque and grenades on bottom, sniper on top. I haven't tried this one enough to comment on it yet, but it seems like it had potential.
there is one little thing i noticed on this map though: the white pickup trucks that can be used for the skydiving glitch now have bars on the back to prevent you from getting in. good stuff.
A+ to Epic on this one. It changes the entire feel of the game in a perfect way. My outlook on the game is revitalized and my enthusiasm has doubled, if that was possible. Good price too.
Thanks again Epic. |

Posts: 515 | Thanks for the review, Dom. And i'm glad you are having such a fun time with these new maps. Now maybe the game lobby will pick-up again, since as of late, it's been pale in comparison to let's say: 2 months ago. Servers still pop up all the time, but barely break passed 5 servers in the morning until noon. I remember when I could find a great game any time of the day, but that was when the game was being discovered by half the world.
As far as this new map-pack... 800 MS points equals out to be? I dunno... $7.00? I'm not too keen on how the MS points work, since i've never exactly purchased anything off of Xbox Live. I always try to grip all the freebies... cheap bastard, I guess. If anyone can let me know how to go about best to get these maps (buy a points card somewhere?), and maybe even equate how the MS points relate to money... would be nice.
These maps seem kick-ass, and i've seen the pictures which makes me want to drool. Hell, i'm still playing GoW DAILY! And this just map-pack just made it 100% better. There isn't any of that.. "Man, I haven't played GoW in months. The online sux0rz, and the campaign is boring now" with me. I hear that from alot of people now, people that have moved on.
For me, I still play this game everyday. Money is tight at the moment, and throwing $10 on 4 maps seems kind of awkward and guilty. September is soooo far away... i hear the maps will be free by then. Soo soo soooooo far away!! |

Posts: 106 | it's not a waste of money, and plus if you can afford a 400 dollar video game system, a 60 dollar game, and a 50 dollar a year subscription to Xbox Live, i don't think 10 dollars is asking too much, unless someone bought all of that stuff for you. it is worth every penny i paid. |

I've uploaded some trailers on YouTube, type Gee2909 in the search box to find 'em. |

Posts: 515 | Yeah, I figured it out. And I just decided to purchase them. I've only played Subway and Garden so far, and i'm happy to say they are a nice addition. Garden is sweet both graphically and tactically. The switches to turn off the gas are a bit much though. I just didn't like that all that much, but it's not horrible.
And Subway is cool too. I like the underground area! It's a nice place to battle, and get some weapons. The top area seems to continue the tactical & barrier type combat. The sniper area, up top, is sweet too. Having to watch yourself from the bolts up above, makes it all the more harder, especially with a skilled sniper. I like the rain effects, nice touch.
As far as I've played, 2 of the 4 maps, and the maps are tight. I think they really needed something like this to draw attention back to GoW. The price tag seemed a bit much for 4 maps, really. They are nice maps, but $10 just doesn't seem right. (Actually $12.50, I had to buy the 1,000 MS points package). I'll have to see the other two maps also...
P.S. Sweet flamethrower! Come to me Halo 3!! |

(Actually $12.50, I had to buy the 1,000 MS points package). | Begin Rant: There are times when I just want to put my foot down. And say, "No! to M$". Because when will it stop? They will continue to microtransaction us to death. When they have willing and loyal customers that will gobble and pay anything they ask for up, then they will see no problem with doing so.
I just think that M$ will continue to bring prices into the equation for everything, and unfortunately could even raise them. The GHII situation, which thankfully I was not a part of, is what i'm talking about. It seems things that should be given cheaper, for being a Gold member, or even reasonably considering the amount of gamers buying to one update = $$$.
I heard a rumor that Epic was going to release these new maps for free, and M$ convened and said they wanted a price tag on them. Corporations are in the business of making money, of course they want price tags on them. If you put your foot down, and disagree... in great numbers M$ will have to listen. If you start holding onto your money... they will have to try and work harder to get it. |
