| Thanks, well i don't have any, i'll have to buy one. I can send a UTP Cablea instead, but, i hate cables at home. Is there any kind of harware restriction on the console?, because i can see a simple USB adapter as "original" and the transmition protocols are always the same. Right? |

| I have a question so I'll tack on to this thread rather than create a new one. Does anyone that uses MS' wireless adapter notice any problems with lag, latency or anything like that? I'm considering one so I can move my router and cable modem to another room and clean up the mess behind my TV. I won't bother if the wireless adapter doesn't perform as well as a standard wired connection.

| Based completely on heresay, but Ive read peoples complaints about exactly what you are speaking of and their diagnosis in alot of cases is their wireless network adapter. I dont have one myself though and dont know the people complaining.
I do have a friend that works with me who has one and I definately have more problems with him then anyone else, come to think of it. That would explain alot, (Im thinking out loud here) as to why we drop so much. So yes, I would say there is a chance it will cause you problems.
I want one but only so my xtra 360 upstairs can connect to my network and so I can get DL content for my single player games that I play upstairs like Mass Effect. I wont be using it for online play. I do that downstairs on the LCD already.

| I bought Microsoft's wireless network adapter and I'm very happy with it. My wireless router is across the other side of the house so the ethernet cable is not an option. No other wireless adapter will work for the Xbox 360, I confirmed this with Microsoft. There are only drivers for Microsoft's own adapter (duh) pre-installed on the system.

The problem with my friend could be lots of things, he just happens to be wireless.
In fact u are right about on MS adapters work. I did find that the one for the original xbox also works, which I found right on Xbox.com. Then someone or on the xbox site it said the new one allows connections to .802.11g/? routers. Mine has those exact numbers on the front with a g, so I would buy the newer 360 one. But the info is out there.
Man, Im not ready to pay $100 for that now when I dont have to have it. Need to find a deal.

| Last weekend i finally bouught the Xbox Wireless (yes, for 100 usd), and is NOT working as i want to. If someone stands in front of the Xbox or my Router, the signal drops. Now i have to relocate my Xbox to another place. My router is located at my Radio Station (yes.. I'm a Ham Radio Operator) about 8 meters far from Xbox. My Laptop works fine at second floor of my house, but Xbox does not. It needs more transmition power. |

| It would seem to me that a wireless access point (router) setup to work as a wireless bridge would do the same thing and the MS wireless card. This is just a theory I have but it's one I plan on testing.
Since the access point is acting as a bridge the 360 won't even know it's on a wireless connection, thus, no problems with the pre-loaded drivers.
This is my first post so hello to everyone.

| You CANNOT use any (non-MS) USB wireless adapters on your xbox. These adapters require drivers to be loaded on the machine and you cannot install drivers on an xbox. MS has pre-installed drivers on the xbox for their wireless adapter only. This way they can get you to overpay for their over-priced wireless adapter.
You can use the original xbox1 wireless adapter, and can find it offered a bit cheaper than the xbox360 adapter.
You can also use a wireless "gaming" adapter, such as the one Linksys offers. I am using this without any problems. Yes, the gaming adapter is actually a 'bridge" router (you plug one end of an ethernet cable into the game adapter, and the other end into the xbox's ethernet port.) The only downside is the gaming adapter requires a power outlet, whereas the MS wireless adapter does not.
As I mentioned, the wireless gaming adapters are actually wireless access points configured as a bridge, so if you have the know-how you can actually get a hold of any access point and configure as a bridge. Wireless access points can be found for ~$50. Wireless gaming adapters can be found for $60-90. Obviously much cheaper than the MS rip off of $100! |

| I think i'll avoid using the 'official' one and just run an ethernet from the 360 to the router that way i'll get 100% of the signal meaning no lag. I don't see why i have to pay £50 for one anyway when gates could have just built it in to the console in the first place cheeky ****er. |

| Bridge the wireless connection from your laptop... saves you 100... and it's not that hard to do... just make sure you have some sort of networking xp |
