Default Chat issue, but different than Spartan's

I have been having issues with chat as well.
When i am in COD4 i can't hear any of my teammates. When the round is over and it shows everyone's score, all the little speakers that represent mics, all have x's through them. at first i thought it was a server issue from that host, but unless ever server is doing that, then i have an issue.
Likewise, on vegas 2 on terrorist hunt, i can see that my teammates are talking (you know the bubble up in the left hand corner with their name), but i can't hear anything.
i tried 2 different headsets, so it isn't that. i still get the x through all players on COD4 even if i don't have my mic plugged in.
has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it? i looked through all my settings on the console, and there really doesn't seem to be any option to change in game chat. i haven't tried an out of game chat in quite some time, but last time i did it worked.

Faulty controller?

That happened to me before and I realised I had the voice muted in personal settings.

I just have to point out that it's "than" not "then". I don't mean to be an ass, it's just one of my biggest pet peeves.
On to business- the same thing happened to me awhile back. I guess it corrected itself because after a couple days or so it went back to normal.

sorry, josh, i tried to edit it, but couldn't .

i have tried different controllers, even when it was wired to the system. i am hoping it goes away, but it has been a couple weeks. i want to say it almost coincides with a download i did near the same time. was it maps or an update, i don't remember.

so other people HAVE had this happen? do you think doing that clear the ram, or whatever it is, would do the trick? where you press the sequence of buttons on your controller?

is the personal settings under the system tab? i should check that, though i thought i did, but i can't think of any other option. i just tried a new controller after your post on a cod4 game, and same thing, all the people had the red x through their speaker icon.
i do have a keyboard plugged into the usb port and the baby likes to bash the keys, so he may very well have messed something.

oh, and thanks for the edit...i wouldn't want josh to hold a grudge against me for some grammar errors.
