Is the PS3 dead?

Is the PS3 a failure, and what is up with Sony saying that you can't find any PS3s. I mean I see the same PS3s at Best Buy every time I go. I payed the price for getting one. (my wallet and my disappointment).

I think it all boils down to patience.. While I would be happier if things were top notch ready to go straight out of the box. Console launches seldom go that way. I also think everyone is a bit spoiled by the 360 so they are expecting a lot more from the word go. Games, Online play, dashboard/home. etc all take time and MS had the same type of growing pains that Sony is currently going through.

Sony had (and still does have) one of the best selling consoles in the PS2. They are not about to let the Next-Gen world pass them by without a solid offering. So for now it is way... way... to soon to even think the PS3 is dead or even close to it. We all should have a better idea in a year.

For me it is like having two kids, one 20 years old and one 2. Then try and say something is wrong with the 2 year old because the 20 year old already has and job and doesn't need diapers.

So for me, not dead or even close. It could still happen, but it is just to soon to tell.

Some of us are still enjoying our PS2s. God of War 2 is coming out next week and will be the end of the PS2 for myself anyway. Once I am finished with GoW2 I will be looking into a PS3, but in no rush to buy one. I know of 3 other people besides myself that will be purchasing a PS3 once the gaming library is there.

It is going to be tough to get an honest feed back to your question on a Xbox forum. I know there are a few of us multi-system owners on here but most people are 360 die-hards.

But I vote No the PS3 will be in the running for the next 5 years+

so far the ps3 has been a failure. but then again, its only the beginning so its too early to call it dead. if that littlebigworld comes out any time soon, that could be a system spiker.. hell i want to play it, and i dont like Sony. consoles normally have rough patches in the beginning, because there isnt alot to do, even our beloved 360 didnt have THAT MANY good launch games. We'll see. If the PS3 keeps up its lackluster trend for too long, then it might be a real disaster, especially when the 360 drops its price and the many AAA titles come out this year... but for right now.. its too early to call it dead, just in heavy turbulence.

HOW THE **** CAN IT BE A FAILURE! seriously the fanboys on this site are a sad joke, the PS3 isnt OUT YET in 35% of the gaming market(europe) so its impossible to even know if its a failure.
But its not its the start of the console and is only taking off and will do aswell as the 360 hopefully(healthy market).

I dont know why you M$ fanboys want the PS3 to fail, cant you get into your heads the better it does the better off us gamers are! a healthy market is the best thing for a gamer, espically his wallet, better prices/offers/deals and so on...

SHANE 32 your comments about england are bang out of order this site is about games. its not political and nobody wants to hear your sectarian comments. also whats the jaffa cake comment about im guessing its for rangers fans.maybe you will think twice about cheap comments in future

Shane, I agree with you. Europe is a huge part of the gaming market and they don't even have access to the PS3 yet. In other words, when it does launch the PS3 user base could theoretically double overnight for all we know.

I also agree that having more then one solid option in consoles can and does improve the overall quality and level of services we as gamers get to enjoy. By continuously pushing each other we will be the ones who see the benefits.

Man, I may never understand Shane's fascination with Jaffa cakes. It seems unhealthy, but at least it is a source of happiness for him.

I guess what we need to define here is what a "failure" would be for the PS3, and I am obliged to opine that not selling half the numbers the PS2 did, nor being in the #1 position would constitute a "failure" for the PS3. In that case, yes, I hope it fails.

Also, if the PS brand as a whole failed, then I would point and laugh at Scotracer just for the hell of it, yet be mindfully sorry towards all the other PS fanboys. Next, I would hope that Samsung came in with a gaming machine, then I might jump ship to the next under-dog.

btw, so far the PS3 is a failure compared to the other systems. Over hyped, over priced, and so far, under delivered.
Its not fanboyism, its fact. Numbers dont lie, lack of games dont lie. Then again, its still in the beginnings of its life. Maybe u should reread my post. If things look the same this time next year, then id start calling the PS3 a dying breed. Its not that i want it to fail, its that so far it IS failing. Things could change quick with a few good games. This time next year, it could be leading in sales... or farther behind. Who knows, you dont, and neither do i.

If it does die for some reason, can MS buy the liscence that LBW game

i so want to play it!

Indeed , and that what makes it interesting.I myself think they will be level-pegging this time next year with a few big games being vital importance to the war.

Psycho Jock, shane's Jaffa cake reference was purely because of a running joke we have here. Don't read too much into it, especially if you've just joined. Learn to know people before calling them out on anything.

I presume you're Scottish, with a name like Jock but I can guarantee most of your presumptions on shane are false. He is likes to dick-about on here. Leave him be.

Back to the PS3:

How can you even make such a claim when the PS3 hasn't been released in the biggest gaming market in the world? Europe is the most pro-Sony region of the big 3 so you cannot just shun it's rather mediocre sales in USA and especially Japan.

There's much more talk of the PS3 in the UK than either the Wii or the Xbox 360 so expect big sales, even with the big price-tag.

If Superman64 made its way to the PS3 Virtual console then the PS3 would be dead. OH wait... Superman64 will be headed to the Wii... I best sale my Wii now while they are still in demand.

Well it is not news that at this time the PS3 is battling it out for last place and could continue to do so who knows, but it will be fun watching all 3 systems evolve over the next few years.

And NO my Wii is not for sale.
