Posts: 1,098 | I was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider about 7 years ago. I went into shock and almost flatlined. For a while, the doctors thought they may have to amputate my left hand, but thankfully, a skin graft from the back of my leg saved my hand, and I still have 100% use of it for the 360! Hell yeah!

Posts: 101 | My appendix burst when I was 8, had an emergency op to remove what was left of it and then had to fight off blood poisoning, I nearly died then. Other than that, ive not really come close, just the usual non life threatening accidents. |

Posts: 1 | I was almost murdered by some dude with a knife. He threatened me in broad daylight with the knife out. He didn't do anything though... So we then left, scared to death, and filed a report with the Cops. |

Posts: 1,875 | In the summer of 2000 I took an 8000 mile road trip with my buddies, from Astoria, Oregon, down to Guatemala and Belize, then returned. In the process, we went to this cave we located deep in the jungle of Guatemala. We went in, wearing shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, carrying a 25 pound emergency battery pack (with light attachment) and a mini-maglight. Needless to say, we were marginally equiped for the adventure. In hindsight, it was very stupid, because we came upon a massive pit, which we esitmated to be +90 feet deep (dropping a rock into it, counting 3 second before it hit bottom, and multiplying it by basic gravity standards of 32 ft per second). Anyway, to get around it, we had to cling onto stalagtites and stalagmites, pressing our bodies flat against the wall, hoping to dear God that these didn't break and send us into the depth of the pit.
I think we took about 5 minutes, traversing roughly 40 feet around this giant pit before we were on a "path" that continued leading down. We got maybe 50 feet from the pit when we slipped and fell/slid another 50 feet down this steep incline and luckily landed in this soft mush pile. It smelled so bad! It was at this point, we realized the tens of thousands of bats above us -- this huge column of bats swarming above is, and as we looked down, we noticed that we had "safely" landed in this big hill of bat crap, which had an infestation of millions of bugs, which, at this point, were crawling up our legs. I kid you not, the entire pile of crap was in movement from all the insects. It looked like a huge pile of creepy insects, insects that I've never seen, nor care to see again, of varying sizes and ugliness.
It took us a while to crawl out of that area because the slick incline was better than the tread of our flip-flogs, and we literally clawed our way out, by sinking our fingers into the slime, and pulling ourselves up and out. Once we got out of the cave, we jumped into the closest river and checked ourselves for bugs, worms, etc.
Was that near death experience? Well, in hindsight, yes. At the time, being young and adventurous, the idea doesn't really cross your mind. But looking back, we could have easily fallen to our death twice; at the pit, and at the point we slipped and fell into blackness. It was very scary, not seeing where you are falling, but did death enter my mind? I don't recall.
I've also been shot at, been in serious accidents, nearly drowned, washed out to sea, and had other experiences too. But those are other stories for other times. |

Posts: 1,143 | I was biten in half by a Great White shark in my local swimming pool. I survived because i was wearing arm bands. The other near death experience I had was I was having a dream that I was falling through the air and I woke up before I hit the ground. Apparently if you hit the ground in your dream you die in real life.
I was also assimilated by the borg which is like dying in a way. My crew rescued me though.

| | | I fell off a massive wall at the end of the road(where i used to live) on halloween good few years ago, i fell and back of my head smacked off a large rock that was sorta jutting out from ground, it was the first part of my body that hit impact so alot of pressure was on the back of my skull when it hit, i fractured the back of my skull but nothing that major, was in hospital for about a week and was let go.mainly to make sure i didnt get concusions or anything.
Aparently if i had hit it about a inch to the left i would have been dead or brain damaged, its to do with the joints on your skull, i got hit on a strong spot so was minor fracture, if it hit to the left it would have punctured threw to my brain, i dont know how true it is, but its what i was told in hospital so i do think about it the odd time, to put things in perspective. | |

Posts: 3,184 | Closest to death? Hmm, I have a few examples; from having meningitas as a baby, to going Evil Knevil on a Tricycle as a toddler down a flight of stairs (almost snapping my neck) or falling off of several of my motorbikes, on seperate occasions.
Erm, the closest though, would have to an accident I had on one of my Quad's (ATV) when I was about 12.
It was a warm summer day and me, and my neighbour were messing around in our gardens on our race quads (I had a 1 acre garden at the time) and I decided to give her a race. So, we pulled up along side and set off. Since the two quads were virtually the same, it was neck and neck. I got a better run out of the bottom corner and pulled along side. She then forced me to go off the track that we had set out. Unlucky for me, is that there was a dip hidden in some longish grass. Even more unlucky is that I was doing nearly 60mph at the time. I hit the dip, and I was literally launched from the bike and sent flying down the garden, with the quad in hot pursuit. I hit the ground about 20ft further down from the dip THEN the quad thought it'd be nice for itself to land on the softest thing around; me. The quad was a 125cc Suzuki-Yamaha hybrid race quad that weighed about 135kg (297lbs) so when it lands on you at about 40mph, you know about it. Me and the bike then rolled another 50ft and I got splattered. The bike landed handle-bars first onto my chest with enough force to actually snap the bars completely. After that it's a bit of a blur as I was knocked out just before we came to a stop and woke up about 30 mins later in an ambulance.
I had 3 cracked ribs and a dislocated shoulder and knee. So, lesson here kids is NEVER BUY A QUAD! EVIL! |
