Posts: 152 | What the hell is going on with XBL LAG ON THE 360? Hmmmm, I'm not really sure what's going on with the lag problems for the X360 games. It's really pissing me off and I want to know what is causing it and why I should have to pay for it. I play COD2 & DOA4 on XBL and they both experience unusualy bad Lag problems from time to time.
I'm using a 700kbs cable connection wired strait to the router then wired straight to my 360. My PC has the wireless network card and I play Counter Strike Source online all the time without lag with 40+ players at the same time in one game session. Not to mention, Halo 2 amongst other original Xbox games play perfect without any lag problems so it’s definitely not any lagging connection on my part. Furthermore, it seems that many others are experiencing the same problem at the same time I do.
There is a theory that the first person in a game lobby is the one who hosts the game but I disagree. Xlive is all unified and the host is the game servers. I could be wrong about this but if anybody has any info on how it works exactly I would appreciate it. I think we need to get on Microsoft’s case about this problem because I’m reluctant to pay for a lagging online service.

Posts: 961 | Yea dude. I'm totally with you on this one. Quake 4 isn't even worth playing online either. You have to log into a match, wait forever to either get players to join or for the game to start. Then sometimes wait a long time for the game to load and set up, if it even does. I've had about 10 times so far where the game just froze at the lobby screen right before getting into the game, and we all had to leave 1 by 1. By leave i mean shut the game off, and go back to the xbox 360 dashboard!! Then even in the game has a bunch of lag once in a while.
And this is just my beef with Quake 4!!!! |

Posts: 398 | I honestly have not experiencing much if any lag at all on Live. I play CoD2, PGR3 and DOA4 pretty frequently, and don't have many problems. |

Posts: 723 | I don't play much online, but from what I have seen, it's a fall down to the people you play with. I had a perfect DOA4 game, no lags ANYWARE for 2 fights straight, then a new person got to fight, and it lagged insanely! After the fight was done, so was the lagging. I don't know what people are doing when on Live, but with me, I keep everything else EMPTY so my Xbox is the only thing accessing the internet.

Posts: 802 | COD 2 lag is outragous. I am so fed up with it that I no longer play that game online. My other games PDZ and NFSMW have little to no lag so now those are the only games that I play.

Posts: 227 | COD2=lagfest sometimes. My other games have no problem at all.
And I have a question for anyone-Xbox 1 didn't have dedicated servers. And i thought i read somewhere that MS signed a deal with at&t to host dedicated servers for the live on 360. Does anyone know if that has taken effect yet or is it still hosted on one person's box?

Posts: 152 | Well I guess others games play just fine with minimal to lag which is normal from time to time but COD2 really takes the cake. I really don't think COD2 relies on the first person's connection that joins the lobby because after peak hours, around 1:00 am, I play COD2 just fine with the maximum players and no lag whatsoever every single game. It's only during the peak hours (after 5:00 pm in America) the lag really gets bad on COD2. Explain that one.

Posts: 3,184 | Well i have a 2Mb DSL connection with a 288Kb upstream, i no it isnt the greatest connection but Call of Duty is just pathetic, didnt infinity ward test their servers before finalising the game? All the other games i have are final, PGR3 is especially good online, virtually no lag at all.
When i do get the rare lag-free game, the game itself is awesome, better than Halo 2 in many respects but until they fix the server issues ill be playing the old h2 pwning noobs |
