So far I am a Corporal. Chugging along.

Now I am half way through the first class sergeant and I have the sweet assault uniforms and it's all orange. But I still need the camera so I can put my face on it.

I´m having a problem understanding the "ranked match" thing...

What exactly is a "ranked match"?

Do you need to play a ranked match to get new stuff (like the link shows)? Or is that a stand-alone in-game ranking system?

Answers is much appriciated...

Yep, play ranked matches online, or player matches, or co-op story stages to get points. You get points for all of these, but for the acheivements, you must play ranked matches.

A ranked match is simply a match where you are placed with others who are similar to you. They are around your rank. Player matches are those that have any ranks, so you can play with elite guys or new guys.
