I am planning on selling my xbox in order to get the extra $100 to buy the $400 supposedly backwards compatable (for my leftover games for xbox) 360. First I need to know.
1. If I do this, can I play an Xbox 1 game on 360's live service? Such as Halo 2? If so, will this work with Xbox 1's playing people in Halo 2 using 360's?
2. Is the hard drive confirmed to be fully backwards compatable yet? If it won't play "some" of my games, it isn't worth selling my Xbox then.
3. On XBL currently, I am Shadow417, why the numbers? ShadowX was taken, though, he seems to be really inactive. Is there anyway to get ShadowX as a Gamertag foe 360?

-you will be able to play Halo2 on xbox360 and will be able to play against people using xbox1.

-no officical word on the games that will be availible for backwards combatble games. However it was stated the more popular games would be but not all xbox1 titles

-XBL is not changing its essentially the same service so no you will not be able to take the already taken gamer tag.
all in all do it anyway forget your xbox and move on.
VictoryOverWar is right on the money... I heard that you will be able to download emulation (backwards compatibility) patches via XBL Silver for free in the future.
I don't know if I want to sell my xbox and a bunch of my games to get money for the 360? My brother and I will be fighting over who gets to play the 360, but if I kept the xbox we could both play halo 2 on live or something.
I'm giving my xbox to my sister. I'm only going to keep a few games for my xbox to play on the 360. I already sold my PSP. It was crap anyways. No really good games and not much in the future.

A great point made in this thread. It's fair to say that most people who are buying an XBox 360 at launch already have an XBox. A large proportion of people moaned about the extra $100 needed for the HDD and backwards compatibility. The simple answer, sell your XBox and you are sorted.
The ironic thing is, how much do people really, and I mean *really* take advantage of backwards compatibility. I had a PSOne, and have a PS2. I have a huge pile of PSOne games, and the PS2 can play them all. I have played a grand total of ONE in the PS2, just to see if it worked. Backwards compatibilty is just a selling feature that people want because they think they need it. The reality is, hardly anybody uses it.
As for Shadow having numbers, just pick a more exclusive gamertag!

Actually, sence the Xbox has live, it's a good feture. Sence the backward compatibility will probably allow for live play, it may come in handy on the Xbox 360. Every so often, some one may say "hey, want to play Splinter Cell 3, or Halo 2?"
I've played about 20 PS1 games on my PS2 though. Then again, I'm a RPG gamer, and love to replay the best of the best (mainly when new games arn't coming out).
I'm trying to say that the Xbox 360's ability to play xbox 1 games will do more for you then the PS2's. Also, that I do see your point, most people havn't used the PS2 backwards abilities.
On topic
ShadowX..
Go ahead and sell your X-box, the 360 will end up playing 90%-all of you xbox games in due time.
Also, you may be able to get the name ShadowX. If it's been cancelled by the user, and been inactive for a couple months. You may be able to pick that tag up. Just try to register it.
