Posts: 167 | I'm disappointed....but just a little bit. Ok, I've had a chance to play some games...condemned, cod2, nfsmw, and pdz, and in their own way, they are amazing....but here's my problem: these games are pretty short. Think of all the processing power, RAM, hardrive capacity (I know not everyone has that HD), I mean, this is one hell of a machine, capable of so much.....think of how freaking big you CAN make a game, and think of the games we have. We're shelling out 60 bucks a pop here on games, can't the damn thing last more than 10-20 hours??? Give me some moneys worth here, or give me a promise of downloadable content.... something. Please. It'd take me longer to beat the original Zelda than to beat condemned and cod2, and from what I hear, Kameo is the same thing. Don't the developers owe it to us to give us something epic to usher in the next generation of game consoles??? Sure we got oblivion on the horizon, but there wasn't anything that REALLY took us on a big journey.....
anyway, just my thought.....anyone agree???
I'm not complaining either...I absolutely love the 360..........just strikes me as a bit odd.... |

Posts: 723 | Think about it, this is the first generation of games for the 360. The first generation of games on EVERY system, regardless of what they play on or who makes them, lakes in areas. Because MS decided to market the 360 as the first HD gaming system, they are going to spend more time and money on graphics then game length. But it could be worse, the games could all be bad, really bad. At least the games are enjoyable. As for Kameo, I know that eventually they will release an update to do co-op over Live. (I personally can't wait for that!) And downloadeble content, just look at the box for that info. It says Content Download if there will be things to download to expand the game with.
Yes, Kameo was kinda short, but they put in un-lockable things that require some major expertise with the game. It's almost like if you mess up more then 4 times in a level, you might as well start over. I enjoy playing it still and I beet it.
In short, give it a little time. There will be some amazing games coming out.

Posts: 79 | Well, I obviously can't speak from experience but... I think the games are so short because they were all rushed to get in production before launch time. I obviously don't have a 360 yet if you've read ANY of my posts but that would be my thought. I'm sure oblivion will be a huge exciting game as well as gears of war and GRAW, so keep your head up and oh..... wanna sell your 360? Just kidding, happy gaming, i will see you some time |

If Im really enjoying a game (Resident Evil 4 on GC) I couldnt run to the system quick enough as soon as the change disk screen comes up.

Posts: 1,875 | Hmm, we have two issues here. Allow me to bifurcate them into two categories: 1. These new games seem short, 2. Dvd-9; was it a bad idea?
1. I actually do not have a problem with short games, because long games can be too long and I have other things to do. But, as it was mentioned, some of these games were ported to the 360 and pushed into launching perhaps a bit early. Obviously as we look down the line and see Obliv., 99 Nights, etc., I doubt shortness will be a huge problem. Perhaps a better question is, how short is too short? For me, under 12 hours is too short, but if it a FPS with excellent online MP, I really do not mind at all.
2. With regards to dvd-9, it will be a fine format for the next 3-4 years, easily. Half Life 2, when everything has been saved onto your hard drive, takes up 3.36gigs of space, just over a 1/3rd of the available space on a dvd-9. I expect games to grow in size, no doubt double within the next 2-3 years, but I do not see games needing 2 disc until the bitter end of the console life. Even still, with development tools like procedural synthesis, compression, etc., the amount of data can be coded and stored better for this coming generation. There is a good thread with lots of comments (some presented here) on this issue over at joystiq.com. Link provided upon request.
Speculation: because the Cell chip is a nightmare for gaming developers, I think it a real boone for them to have Blu-ray storage as the coding will probably be sloppy. |
