Posts: 106 | I just can't get comfortable.. I have a few friends to play Live with, and I can definitely hold my own in the games i play on Live, but I just don't feel comfortable playing matches when none of my friends are online (which is most of the time.) I'm really not that social of a person, which i guess sort of contradicts the whole idea of playing online, but I have great fun when I get the chance to. i play Gears most of the time, and it seems like whenever I join a random match with people I've never met, I worry too much about letting the team down and tend to do a little worse than usual. when i have a friend playing with me though, i do great. i guess i'm just not sure how to stop worrying about playing online with random people and just have fun. games have always been a great source of fun for me, and i think that this would open a whole new world for me. any suggestions? |

Posts: 2,073 | My suggestion- Dont worry about what you teammates think. Just do your best and have fun. I do really horrible sometimes and yes i feel bad and get harrassed too. But i shut them up quickly once they play me 1 on 1. You should just ignore any harrassment you recieve and just try to play the game for fun. Even on ranked matches, say to yourself its just a game and its ok if i let down my team.

Posts: 680 | Im right there with ya dom, Im 32 years old now and I dont have time to get crazy good at any games but I love to play online. I hate letting the team down. That is one reason Im not in any clans. I dont think there is anything you can do other then play more non team based games or just convince yourself it doesnt matter if you arent as good at that time. I play more co-op games since peeps that play co-op in games like GRAW seem to be there more for fun then hardcore competition. I also play alot of sport games ie. Tiger Woods. Play fourball team games alot. And racing games. Just remember it is for fun and dont worry about a thing.

Posts: 841 | I don't worry about it. 90% of the time no one cares how good you do. Just play to have fun. If I get in a group that is to "hard core" for me, I just finish the match and go find another one. I have no problem joining a match online with a bunch of people I don't know. I don't like paying co-op with random people however. Anyway, don't worry about it and just have fun. Good luck~

Posts: 106 | thanks guys. the problem really isn't my skill, it's just that i panic when i'm with a new group of people online and my usually great skill at a game takes a little dive. i probably play games more than i should, and i'm comfortable with how i play, just not with random people. i've been getting more and more serious about games lately and it seems like Live is the next step. i've practiced a lot on the maps with my girlfriend and other friends, but i guess i should just ease up and have fun. i think i might have forgotten that it is just about having fun, and not trying to impress anyone. i wish i could start a Gears clan that would be committed, as i think that would be the best for me, but my friends aren't on that much. i guess i should just get over it. harassing, which is pretty much the worst thing that could happen, isn't that big of a deal. thanks guys! |

I'm the same way, too. I guess I'll have to get over it eventually. I have no problem in large matches, but co-op stuff makes me kinda uncomfortable.

| It is a great time. They are also coming out with some downloadable content first part of next month that will include some new maps and game modes. Great time!

Posts: 2,633 | I see the conversation has moved a bit, but i'd like to digress back to the main point. I know what that guy is saying, you feel the pressure, especially when you are last player for search and destroy type games. And i hate that, so i worked out some strategies for that stuff:
1) guard the flag in CTF games. That way, if you die, you can still tell your team how many or what direction the dude took off with the flag, so you are still helpful (If any listens to you, that is a different story).
2)run behind the guy with the flag, that way it looks like your supporting him, and if you die helping him get the team a point, you're a hero (not really, but no one will mock you...unless they are jerkheads).
3)watch your team ratios on search and destroy and hq type games, then get yourself killed if you are the 3rd or 2nd person left, then the pressure is on the last guy to win it.
4)and finally, find a good server. if people mock you constantly for not pwning everything, time to move on. takes some searching, but i found some good servers where your teammates actually encourage and congratulate you. (I know, its pretty weird, but some people are still respectful on the interweb.)
5) and another thing you could do is join huge servers that just do deathmatch (or team-deathmatch), so no one knows how bad you are and you can get lost in the crowd. but i prefer games with an objective, like ctf. |

Posts: 26 | You sound like a good guy, Dom. Feel free to add me to your friends list too if you ever want to play R6V. I don't care if you hit a single dude when we play, just crack a few jokes here and there and have a blast. |
