Posts: 246 | It depends on what kind of latency you get from it, if you can get interleaving turned off then you could probably get some good ping times.
But don't expect to host a match with more than 1 other person.
As for downloading, sure you can download things, but it will take forever. say if you want to download the halo3 beta when it comes out (which is around 1gb) and you are downloading around 40MB an hour with 128Kbit/s that is about 25 hours of downloading time, that is if it is going absolute full speed.
It will be good if you just play online with one other mate (or maybe 2), download patches, and maybe download small maps every now and then.
But it is pretty slow for what xbox live demands. sorry to break it to you. |

| | | 2mb and up does the job for anyone just fine its all you really need. of course people want faster speeds and 'think' they need them and its handier to have say 3mb,6mb and so on....
If you play with people near you(from your own country) then your ping will be much better. And as for d/l off live yes faster speeds is better and quicker obviously.

Posts: 2,523 | HOSTS do not have lag, as you are the HOST. people are connecting to you... unfortunatly you can make all of your friends lag w/ your slowarse connection.. which will actually work out to your favor, as the system will see the commands you make much faster than the commands your friends make, and therefore you will b able to kill them sometimes before they can react.
the HOST always has an edge in gameplay as there is no lag for the host.

Posts: 16 | well im from american samoa. i dont know if any of you know where that is. but it's an U.S. Territory in the south pacific. about a 5 hour flight south of Hawaii. so that's pretty far. and i think the speed i listed is the fastest we can get. plus it's expensive to get here. (i'm willing to pay if it runs good). but im not too sure. i don't even know anyone here with a 360. lol. i've been online with my ps2 via dial-up and no one wanted to play with me cause my connection was too slow. i dont know now. i want to be connected to live. but i'm not sure if i'm going to want to pay $75 dollar monthly fee for out "High Speed" connection and the XBL fee if no one wants to play with me . Do you guys think that my speed (if i decide to get our local broadband) will be fast enough? 128kbps
BTW
is DSL the same as Broadband?
and is it considered broadband if it uses the Ethernet Wire?
thanks for the help.

Posts: 246 | yes DSL is broadband.
And if there is an ethernet cable coming from your modem/router it is usually considered a broadband modem.
Well with 128kbit/s I think it would be ok to play someone who is in your city (albeit just 1 at a time). But playing anyone internationally i don't think it would be worth it |

| | | You'd be alright with your speed if you get americans to host the games and you join, get some american lads you know (or get to know) with strong speeds to host games and you join you will be fine.
just forget about playing with someone in europe or people in the US with weak connections.

Posts: 16 | Well i think that our ISP (Blue Sky) is satellite. but i thought it was local. is Blue Sky up there too? probably out of business. but since we are a little island in the middle of the south pacific surrounded by water. if i were able to connect would i still be counted as US? or would i be considered international? thanks guys

Posts: 2,523 | if its sattelite, then your upload speed is gonna be crap if i remember. Given that, and that you are 5 hrs away from hawaii, which means you what.. 10 from the US, flying... im guessing you would get a much better reception from maybe some ausie players or some japanese players? Im sorry, but i think your better off just DL demos and stuff off of XBL than trying to play anyone... even though DL is gonna take forever on its own.
when in doubt, take the free 1 month trial of xbl-gold, and try to join games.. see what happends.
Silver is always free, and there is alot of content to DL to keep you busy if you cant play online.
Edit:
wow, just looked up where you are located... u would have a much better chance hooking up w/ a high speed ausie player than a US player from where you are located... goodluck
