Exclamation Serious Shivering Isles bug confirmed for PC...possibly 360

I found this and thought I'd share. There is a fix for PC users, but this problem has not been confirmed for the XBox yet. This article will also show you how to diagnose the bug and show you how to tell how much the bug has progressed. Apparently it corrupts your save files and affects the whole game after an estimated 150 hrs of play (XBox). I plan on backing up my save files on a memory card until this is confirmed, dismissed or fixed.

Well, from what I can tell, they released a beta PC patch today...hopefully there will be a 360 one soon to follow.

Bethesda is saying they cannot reproduce the bug on the 360, and I'm beginning to wonder if they are going to leave us playing the 360 in the dark. I sure hope not, for it will be the last product I will ever buy from them.

i just put 40 hrs into SI for the 360, and there wasnt a single problem, if anything it IMPROVES slightly on gameplay and definatly in graphix while in SI... if all expansions were this good, i would die a happy man.

Any update on the patch release for 360 yet?

I've been strolling on BethSoft forums and haven't received any word yet....

ur a tard.
what are they gonna patch if there is no bug?
just because there is a bug on a PC game, doesnt mean it will translate to the 360 counterpart.
PC = 10,000,000 possible hardware configurations = bug possibiltys HIGH
360 = 1 hardware config = bug possibilitys extremely low.

shut up and download it and quit worrying about the PC version!! its like saying "hay the ps3 version dies, but the 360 version hasnt shown it yet, but i wont get the 360 version because the ps3 version sucks" or i wont by a DVD because the VHS tape looked crappy
jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze

No word yet. It has been confirmed that the formid#'s have been rapidly accelerated on the 360, but there hasn't been enough time to verify a proper rollover. It has been said that since the 360 processes slower (30fps) that upscale pc's (60fps +) that the bug will take approx 150-180 hours of play before a rollover occours instead of the pc's 50-80 hrs. The testers on the Bethesda forums are testing game saves and are but a few days away from knowing if the rollover will occour properly, but until then, no one knows.

Hey how about you take a breather and relax before you start going into a killing frenzy...

Shivering Isles does Increas FormID count on XBOX! - Bethesda Game Studios Forums

Get your facts straight before you start calling me a "tard"

It does affect 360, there have been numerous accounts of it affecting 360's, just a slower rate.

I'm not here to argue or to flame anybody, I just wanted to see how involved some of you were with this issue.

Apparently for the concern of my games and hardware I am a "tard" though.

The least I expected from you was a little maturity.

Yep, the testers on the Beth forums confirmed the bug on the 360. I really hoped for good news. Bethesda states they are "currently investigating" ths issue. I have been tooling around a bit in Oblivion, but I'm gonna stop alltogether until they fix it.

Edit- the results are in:

how common is it? what were they doing to make it happen? was it a common occurance if they repeated the same steps?!?!?!
all relavent questions for testing a bug.
if it cant be answered, then i say screw it and keep playing ur game! "a friend" had it happen doesnt convince me.. i still play it, well after the story quest is beaten, and i still say it looks better and seems more solid than the original game... thats just my 2 cents though.
anyone on here actually have it happen to them.. not a "friend of a friend"..
is this gonna be like the 3RingsOdeath... or is this just smoke?

Keep playing if you like. I would suggest reading the beth forums...expecially the last link I posted. These people have been extracting xbox saves and testing them since easter weekend...running their boxes non stop to reach the rollover. It is obviously up to you whether or not you play, but when/if you start loosing items and your level 50 char rolls over to lvl 1 with no items.....well, you have had fair warning. Hopefully there will be a fix soon. The bug did it's damage after just over 131 hrs of non stop running....so the average player should be safe for a while. If you read the info, you don't have to play in SI...the bug effects Oblivion the moment you download SI.

I say, read the info and make the call yourself.

the whole thread they never mentioned once that the character level drops, just that you lose items due to the thread ID going higher than it should...
they got it to work at 76hrs of strait gametime, no menus. on a normal player thats probably close to 120-160 hrs of gametime because of all the time spent in menus and paused and such. the bug only adds during gametime. Unless you have an extremely high level character with mass amounts of stuff (the people reporting the bug had stuff out the yingyang), i think ur ok. It doesnt bother me.
They did say in the article how to test it. Make a "regular" save point.. like in ur house or something. Get a bunch of saves there. After a few hrs or whatever make a save with a bunch of items laying on the ground infront of you. If you can go back to an earlier save in your house, and those items are there, then you are affected by the bug. If they are not there like they shouldnt be, then you are fine.

I still think u guys are way over worrying. Ill go check in a bit to see if i am being affected...

Yeah, the rolled over char happened on PC, but so far everything that has been happening on PC is starting to show up on 360. I know, this REALLY sucks. I was wanting good news and I, too, have still been playing off and on. My kid has a char only about 20 hrs in...I may help her out a bit for a while Just be mindfull of the possibilities...that's all. Try to keep periodic separate saves on a MU...and keep rocking!

Edit- ok the rolled over char seems to be happening to PC users that have applied the beta patch.....here are some screen shots someone posted...

Before

ImageShack - Hosting :: oblivion200704120427296dl5.jpg

After saving and loading saved game...

ImageShack - Hosting :: oblivion200704120427084zr2.jpg

This would really suck...thank goodness PC users are testing the patch!

It may not be something too serious right now. But I think eventually this can turn into something pretty bad, even if it is just items and not levels, it's still something that is screwed up and needs to be fixed. Regardless of relevance, BethSoft should admit that they missed a bug during testing and should fix it. I don't pay $60 for these games to have bugs in them. (Even though almost all of them do)
