Default Microsoft to reverse PC gaming decline with Vista launch

Quote:
Won't be killing-off PC Gamming anymore
Microsoft intends to launch an 18-month campaign to convince consumers that Windows is a gaming platform that can hold its own against the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

”The Windows business is down 10 per cent year-on-year and we’ve lost shelves of space. We’re killing off that community without the retail support,” said Microsoft product manager Kelly Stanmore, according to website MCV UK.

Will Microsoft succeed in reinvigorating PC gaming, even as gamers worldwide are absorbed in the launch of next-generation console systems from Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony? Game retailing is a zero-sum game. That shelf space will have to be won back from somewhere.
With such a huge support for the Next-Gen consoles, reinvigorating PC Gamming will be a more than difficult task.

Well, I know I've never been to into PC gaming. Also, with the Xbox being as near a PC as can be, what's the point? Anyone else see this, or is this just me?

Console Gaming is better then PC, because the console was designed to play games and the PC was designed to do SO much more.

Well right now I have a decent PC but half of my PC games don't work, thats the main thing - getting things to work. Why is Microsoft bothered anyway, they own the Xbox 360, this is kind of confusing.

Heh, they're targeting me. I used to play a lot of PC games, from Grim Fandango to all the Civ games, Sim Cities and EA Battlefront games. Now I rarely play any PC games, mostly console.

Quite frankly, my PC is used for online activity and work. I hate having to go through all that installing, sitting at the desk, playing a game that I could play on the couch or floor in the living on a widescreen TV. Once they mesh all that together, maybe PC gaming will pick up. BUt with services like XBL and excellent games on consoles, it's not likely to happen soon.

That's because Windows represents their main profit income, and by losing the PC Gamming market, they'd also lose potential Windows Users.
