Default Your Thoughts on Test Drive Unlimited!!

Now that Test Drive Unlimited is out, I thought it would be a good time to start a thread on your thoughts of Test Drive Unlimited !

You can rate 1-10 and/or describe what you do and don't like about the game.

I personally love the game and I am going to rate it 11! Probably one of the most fun and addicting games I have ever played!

Thanks for your thoughts,
DIE6FtUnder

Not a bad game. Not great by any means, but not bad. It has some interesting features to it, at least. The physics are obviously arcade and kind of questionable, but the game has a pretty good feel to it overall, form what I've seen so far. Kind of a mix between NFS and GTA, lol. The wireless wheel works good with it, so that's a big plus for me while waiting for a good sim racer to come out. At least I can have that bad boy wheel in my hands, lol. Not sure how far I will get in the game, but for the price, it's a good alternative for now.

Its a good game, not great. Just like DarfterT24 said. I used to own it. I planned on getting a steering wheel and all that for it too. At the time I thought it was a cool idea. Basically a MMO of cars lol. It was fun to see other people fly by you or crash into you lol. The only thing that really turned me off that it was so hard to play with your friends. They could've changed this but when I had the game if you wanted to play with a friend you had to both be in the same server which of course you don't have the option of choosing as the game automatically would connect you to the TDU servers. The only way we found was to go to a shop where you can zone in and out of servers as you enter and exit the store and just keep doing that until we could see each other at the same store.

Other than that it was really fun. I liked the challenges and collection the car. My favorites to collect were the BMW cars I'd have to give it a 7.

Renting is probably a good option with this game. I've only spent about 3 hours with it so far, so my opinion is subject to change later on, lol. But from what I can see, if you don't take it too seriously it's a pretty fun game and the achievements don't seem too tough so far.

The part that has me the most curious is the MOOP side of the game. Apparently the TDU server was down tonight while I was playing, so I didn't get to experience it, but a game that integrates online play with offline play is something I want to see for myself.

Thanks for the input joshcisn. I haven't even thought about how you would hook up with friends on this game, but I can see where that might go against what the game is about. It's almost like you need to have an option to go either MOOP, or Private Multiplayer only. You found a way to do it though, and even though it sounds like kind of a pain, I'll keep it in mind for sure.

Oh I forgot to mention the clubs. Once you start or join a club it does make it easier to play with your friends.

Thx for the info josh. I noticed the club thing last night but didn't really look into it. I doubt I will get into the online side of this game too much. I would imagine it's a younger crowd mostly, which seems to lead to lots of intentional wrecking, in my experience, lol.

Of course, since the game is MOOP, it'll be tough to avoid the online side all-together, but at least you have a choice if you want to enter the online races or not.

Even though this isn't my idea of a great racing game, I'm liking it alot and I'm surprised about that, lol. I almost didn't even buy it because I thought I would hate it, but it's actually a pretty cool game. I like the idea of an open online enviroment, even though I'm not sure exactly what to do with it yet. But there's something pretty cool about driving around in free run mode and seeing some real people instead of just AI cars all the time.

I think the open online enviroment is a new idea that has some good potential with alot of different types of games in the future. I like what I see so far.

I had VERY high hopes for this game. I finally got it on Christmas. And It kind of upsets me Being a noob in a Saturn Sky when there are Mclarens surrounding your isnt especially a good feeling. I would have liked to see a stock option. To where Mclaren F1's arent alwasy there. But are stocked monthly. I would also have loved seperate servers IE Beginners, amatuers, Pros, Experts. So that people in CCR's are harassing you all the time when your in a SSR. I give it a 8 Its based on a excellent Idea. The way it is pulled off is clever. The community is nice half of the time. But I dont like how easy it is to achieve money. And how easy it is to buy high end cars.

The idea behind the game is practically historic...it will likely go down as the first real attempt at MMO racing, and other games will definitely follow.

What has been achieved is impressive, but like any early attempt, there are significant flaws.

Most importantly, the networking is simply horrendous. Since there are multiple servers working independantly, players just appear and disappear continously. There really needs to be some way of shutting off the insignificant data so the servers can work better and pings won't suffer. When I'm driving around with my friends, I don't need to know that "joe-696969" wants to race me or that he is even out there.

Second, steering wheel support is broken. When I'm in the map, whether it's finding a destination or laying out a route for a race, there is no way to move the cursor up or down. There is an option to turn "On" the steering wheel support in the game, but it does not address this issue, and easily could. Basically, if "Steering Wheel" is turned on the options, and I use the D-pad to move the cursor up or down, the camera should follow the cursor. Problem solved. Right now, you can move the cursor clear off the screen to where you can't even see what you're doing with it.

I do enjoy driving around the island though, and exploring all of the roads. I like the way you have to be careful when passing other cars...just like real life. And I love touring around the island with a friend, just dorking around and checking out new places. Kudos Eden and Atari for creating such a breakthrough game!

Default Best Online Racing Experience?

Is it possible that this may be the most realistic experience found for a racing game online? I'm actually from Hawaii and there are times that I'm playing the game and have to stop just because I can't believe how close to reality the streets are duplicated! The turns, dips, and scenery are at times just too good to be true.
As if the fact that you can roam anywhere on a "REPLICA" of the island of Oahu isn't enough, the fact that you can create a Car/Bike Club, challenge anyone while roaming, upgrading your TDU each mo. with new vehicle's and take unbelievably gorgeous photo's at absolutly anytime at all is really quite impressive to say the least. I also like the fact that if someone has an awsome car... they actually had to "EARN" it. They didn't use some code to make it magically appear in thier garage.
Needless to say, I give this game an 11... Kudo's to Atari on this one... "Kudo's".

That's interesting Skyy...I've often wondered while playing what someone from the area would actually think of the game...how close they got it.

I don't know the island, but I also think it's the most realistic based on the driving techniques. How many other games would you blurt out "I wish they would use their damn turn signal"?

10/10 I think it's fantastic, but the thing I hate is when you can't see or interact with player's you know are there on xbox live, for instance when you come out of a building or warp somwhere.
