Posts: 515 | MLB 2k7, Help! I just rented MLB 2k7 for the 360 two nights ago. I started my own franchise, and have been learning a lot of stuff from buttons, smart moves, pitching, base running, etc. BUT i'm having a very tough time batting! I'm not using the classic batting button scheme. I'm using the button layout where you pull the right stick back, and then let go to hit.
I can barely score runs, because all my hits are usually grabbed by the infield/outfield. I've had one homerun, that I got lucky on because the outfielder missed the 'over-the-wall' grab. And since then, my franchise is 0-8, with the Tigers. And i'll say i've scored no more than 3 runs, IF THAT, each game. The batting is extremely hard for me, when I see that people are knocking them out of the park, or kickin ass with base hits left n' right. HOW DO THEY DO IT? I'm struggling to win games, yeah, but batting is near impossible.
If someone can help me, i'd really appreciate it. |

Posts: 3,238 | Its a timing issue. Pull back on the stick as the pitcher releases the ball to start your step into the swing. Release the stick to swing. Instead of releasing, you can push forward on the stick to swing for the fences.

Posts: 4 | well you need to start pulling back as the pitcher starts to throw the ball, and be sure to know the other pitchers wind-up so you dont do it to early and be sure you are kind of able to guess the pitch because it really is just all about the timing |

Posts: 853 | i played the demo and also have played the full game on the ps3. To be honest i couldnt handle the "stick" way of batting and hat to put it back to classic style. When i changed it back i was able to hit a few home runs. All my runs were coming from home runs though, hardly any base hits etc.
Try the classic layout see how that goes for ya

Posts: 3,238 | I'm actually a fan of the stick, but it took some getting used to. I think a batting cage would have been a wise move for Kush Games. Why wouldn't you give your customers the ability to practice their swings?

Posts: 515 | Thank you all for your help. I don't really like the Classic Swing scheme. Just hit A to swing, I find that noob and boring. I like the idea of the swing stick, and i've been using that even though i've racked up nothing but loses.
I'm working on the timing like you all are suggesting, and I won two games! Now, i'm 2-8 on my franchise... lol! Which absolutely sucks! But those are two wins I wouldn't have gotten if I didn't work on my timing and swing.
I find myself thinking that from the time the ball leaves the pitchers hand, and the time I have to pull back and release... leaves really no room for error. It has to be almost perfect, since you only have what... .3 seconds to get it right! Plus, on top of that I have to think about where the pitch is going: is it a ball? should I swing? Lay off? I find it pretty difficult to do all of this thinking, and setting/swinging in .3 seconds.
It's going to take some time to work out correctly, the learning curve for Swing Stick is pretty steep. As much as I like challenges, I find this aggravating... especially when the CPU is hitting base hits/homeruns out of it's ass. BUT my pitching is strong!! I'm striking out batters left n right. If it wasn't for my pitchers, i'd be crying or breaking something, lol.
___
Another issue I'm having is climbing the walls to steal homeruns. I keep diving into the walls, not climbing i for a steal. How do you do it? I run up to the red arrow, and I don't get any "right stick signal to climb." He just dives into the wall.
Any tips about the things i've talked about above? I'd appreciate it. P.S.:I'm not going to Classic Swing mode. Might be easy, but I don't want easy. |

Posts: 3,238 | The best advice I can give is dump the Tigers and take the Indians. LMAO
I have yet to steal a home run. I end up hitting the wall, or timing the leap badly because I can't see the ball. If it is not prompting you to leap, then the ball is likely out of reach.
Defensively, my complaint is with the infield camera angle. I find it hard to judge depth, so a ball to the middle infield will often get past me, even when I feel like my player was in perfect position. I wish I could change this to something a little closer to a top-down view.

Posts: 515 | My pitchers are strong, and crafty. I have no complaints about the pitching side of things... they are good. Often, I have to rely on them pulling us through because the batting side of things is so mediocre at best, right now anyways. Even my "middle of the line-up" batters are whiffing, when they should be strongest. Players like Ordonez, and Polonco are devastatingly below .500, when they should at least be earning their salary.
At the moment, my gripes obviously lay with the batting.
My fielding is awesome. All the defensive positions are steadly holding it down. All the mistakes they've made were stupid mistakes I made, because of misjudging, dumb mistakes, or 2 or 3 drops or errors. Unfortunately, most are in clutch situations. Weird how I always manage to bunk things up when it counts the most.
And i'm currently playing a game, as we speak against the Chicago White Sox. The game is tied at 0-0, going into the top of the 6th inning. I have held them off to only 1 hit. Fortunately, I picked the guy off at 1st, and they have since been unable to get a base hit or even get on base. Correction: I just hit the batter, unintentionally.
When the game is early, and the pitching game is still strong with no fatigue. The batting game is even harder. Fastballs are fast, curve balls curve endlessly & dramatically, and timing is that much more harder. It's in the later innings of the game when hits ensue and things start to become more hectic. As of right now, we are both struggling to make anything. |

Posts: 515 | UPDATE: My batting has gotten increasingly better since my last post. I am now 10-8 on the franchise season, and this last month has been riddled with mostly wins. Things aren't perfect, but i'm moving in the right direction. I've also purchased the game for my collection, and have been happy since.
Thank you all for your suggestions.

Posts: 515 | I was just wondering if anyone know how to throw the ball around to your 2nd basemen, shortstop, etc. after an out.
If you guys don't know what I mean, it's like a groundball out at first. After the play, the first basemen will throw it to the shortstop, and then to the 2nd basemen. It's like they are just throwing it around. Any ideas? I see the computer doing it all the time. |

Posts: 64 | Well... I can empathise with your situation... I have that game, and as sson as I started playing, pitching was comfortable for me... using Schilling I stroke out 10 on 5 and a half innings (well against the Pirates though, ha, ha, ha) but I could barely hit... 2 singles and a double by the 7th... and that was with BOSTON!!!!
I am sure many of you are like me, that just pop that sucker into the console without stopping to read the manual... my bad.
But as soon as I changed the controller to the "cliché" A button batting... it wasn't EASY but MUCH easier... I even hit a homer with Mike Lowell.
I guess it just takes getting used to... and getting outside our comfort zone, specially for older gamers like me!
I'll try using the stick though... if I hit a homer it'll be so much sweeter! |
