Default 360 breaks if you play it too much?

I just got mine tonight and I've been told if you play it more than 4 hours at a time it breaks. That would really suck lol, considering I have played with PS2 12 hours straight without any problems.

So, does it really break it?

Stop believing everything you read, just because some idiot put it out there on the internet. I'm known to leave my on for an entire weekend at a time, if I'm engrossed with a game that does not offer a lot of save points. I'll pause it, go out to eat, and come back hours later and play, go to bed, play again in the morning, etc. I'll have friends stop by in the afternoon, and we'll play nonstop until the wee hours of the morning with no problems. As long as you follow common sense and let it disapate heat properly, you should have no issues.

I have a LAUNCH console bought just after midnight on release day. I have had only a few minor problems and at the start I never turned my 360 off (FFXI). I have put mad hours my 360 and she runs great.

there is no definitive answer why 360's packs up some say its over heating some say its the x clamps some say if prolonged use and the list goes on but at the end of the day its down to bad design you see microsoft was given a lot of stick for the size of xbox so when they designed xbox 360 they made it as compact as possible with out putting two much thought into problems like over heating for instance .
if you go to xbox.com there is an interview with the head of mechanical engineering and he talks about how at first they used one big fan but when they were given the form factor info they had to resort to the two fan set up.
in my opinion i think that on paper and under certain tests the cooling system for the 360 does its job well but thats under perfect conditions but in the real world when 360's are placed under tv's or selfs or just on carpets the cooling system does not work well at all. i have have two 360 the first one i bought at launch and it still works OK i have it in my front room on a TV stand and i use it all the time ,the second one is in my bed room and gets used less but yet it broke down whats that tell us? well chances are that when these things break down its nothing to do with how they are treated or played but more to do with the fact they were never right in the first place so go ahead and play it all you want if its destine to break its going to even if you treat it with kid gloves.

I am on my 3rd 360, the first one broke within the first 10 days, the second one didn't even last that long. However the third one has not had a single problem and its going on a year and a half. I play it all the time and for hours and hours at a time. The one thing I would do to keep it working is making sure it is well ventilated.

Yeah, I don't think the amount of time you leave it on can correlate to whether it breaks or not. If it's going to break on you, it was going to brick anyways. Like others have said, I too, have left my 360 on for long amounts of time only to come back to the controller and continue playing where I left off without a hitch.

We are not recommending that you never shut off your 360. But we are only suggesting that leaving it on for long periods of time should not have any affect on it what so ever. Make sure that you do manage to give it a rest when not in use, or when you are gone for long periods of time. Just like humans, it needs to take a break, and cool down.

And take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. Meaning, don't believe everything you read. Take what you already know, and compare and/or learn.
