Default MS spending an average of @most $94.82 per console for the 3 year warranty.

Microsoft says they are spending an average of 1.1billion for the 3 year warranty program so I divided that by the Official # of 360s shipped worldwide for Q2 2007 which is 11.6 million.

That leaves us with an average cost of $94.82 per unit, This does not take into account the portion of that 1.1 billion that will go into rapairing consoles sold after the 2nd quarter so the overall cost per console will be smaller, I think I heard some projection of 20 million units shipped by mid 2008 so that would make the number more like $55 per unit over the course of the next year.

Why not just build a good, stable, unfaulty console from the start?

This isn't a rant thread i'm just bored because my console has been gone for 3 weeks on this trip for repairs..... 10 months of ownership and 2 months hase been broke time or repair center time.... so disappointing for me, and every owner.

You don't think they believed they had a good, stable, unfaulty console on launch day? People F up. I just committed a major F up at work this week, but I owned up to it and I'm working my ass off to fix it. Kinda like Microsoft.

Rather than play the new American past time, the blame game, MS held themselves accountable and culpable for the 360 failures and mishaps. Microsoft swallowed their pride and paid the price (over $1,000,000,000 worth). They are facing the heat which is more than I can say for Sony or any other major business corporation.

It would take a long boring couple of paragraphs to fully explain the situation. The short version is I gave one of our plants the wrong instructions and didn't discover the error until the next morning. By then the ocean container was already loaded and on a train to the port of NY. Russian customs will never let it through, so I have to figure out a way to fix without costing my company thousands of dollars, while still getting it on the vessel scheduled to sail tomorrow. We're not talking billions of dollars here, but its a very high profile F up because we are the first foreign company to break into this market. It hasn't gone unnoticed, that's for sure.

I think the key thing to think about here is that there are two sides.

1. It could be worse - Microsoft could be like a lot of companies out there and say we are all S.O.L. and charge us tons of money for repairs. I applaud them for stepping up with the 3 year warranty and helping those of us w/ broken consoles out.

2. It could be better - They could honestly figure out the problem and put better hardware in the machine, or fix whatever the problem may be, so that it doesn't keep happening. This would save them money and marketshare in the long run.

3. Lastly, I don't care what anyone says, their customer service personnel could use a bit of an upgrade. It's not that they are unfriendly, they just sound like drones and are so un-personable. It'd be great to call up when your box breaks and talk to someone that sounds like they may have actually played a video game once in their life!

well, for some reason they are fixing many of the repaired consoles by adding heatsinks (cooling is a major issue)... yet they still dont just add heatsinks to the new in box 360s. Im sure that will change as soon as the new SKU's come out with the 60nm chipset.
