Default 3 rings of death...cause...surge protector?

"According to a post on Law of the Game, it's actually surge protectors. Apparently LofG's Mark Methenitis contacted Microsoft Tech Support about his particular red rings of death, and reports the following explanation: "The Xbox 360 is highly sensitive to reductions in power, and even the slightest cut in power can cause things like the fans and even the DVD laser to malfunction. Surge protectors can cause this, and probably 90% of the consoles they see have all failed in 6-12 months of being plugged into a surge protector."

thats the dumbest thing ive heard.. last i checked most surge protectors even out the power to keep things workign properly. The power going to your outlets is not even and has many spikes and brown periods. A surge protector helps even it out a bit. Not much, but better than nothing. if you have a GOOD surge protector that costs a few pennies it definatly helps.

I just put a central surge protector on my main house electrical switch board for like $200 AUD. So worth it rather than buying craploads of power boards.

Speaking of red lights, heres my story.

I own a 360, for last 15 months, all is well.

My younger brother wanted one, so last week, we bought a premium console. Anyway, got home, set it up, created live account, downloaded some updates and games and decided to play some gears.
Disc Drive refused to open! Yikes, did everything to try and fix, it was dead as a dead dingo's donger mate! So back to the store to swap it out. Bless Big W, they simply exchange no questions asked.

So new console is home, in my panic, I plugged in the power only and turned it on just to see if the disc drive opened. It opened first go, so quite happy, but the console was flashing 4 red lights!! I nearly fainted. So I powered down the console and checked the internet.

Reason: No AV Cable detected.

Fix: Plug in AV Cable.

Console is fine, no red lights. But holy jesus does it get your heart pumping!!!

What would be the odds of 2 dead consoles in one day!

All is well now, enjoying 360.

Also, my other newphew wants one, so he is buying it today, I am praying his is not dead out the box either. But we can all rest assured our 3 year warranties will see us through for many years.
Boost.
