Posts: 806 | I BELIEVE you need the hard drive to play move games, but MS states somewhere they are working with current Xbox titles to provide backwards compatibility software within the game DVD so they will run off of both.
As for the hard drive, I think it downloads patches/emulators off XBL and puts them on the hard drive. Keep in mind, the 360 is oblivious to which source you have as a storage format. You could plug in a memory card or a USB storage device and use it to the same effect.
I'm sorry I wish I could provide you with a link or two, but I don't have them.
But as for backwards compatibility goes, why do people stress over this? I mean honestly, how much do you care about playing your xbox games when you have a 360? Who wants to play PGR2 when they can play PGR3? Who wants to play Morrowind when they can play Oblivion? I'm seriously considering selling most of my games when I get the 360. I'm probably only playing a few of them until I replace them of the genre (or sequel) category on the 360. Like Halo 2 for example. When Halo 3 is out I'll only play Halo 2 for my friends who want to play on live or system link that do not have the 360 yet.
As for XBOX LIVE. Before anyone pouts about it, you get XBOX LIVE SILVER for free and as soon as you connect your console to the net. You can download patches, downloadable content, trailers, game demos, most likely movie trailers as well, as well as online chatting, marketplace and so forth. I'm not stating the whole thing because that's not what this thread is for. and it's off topic.
My point, however, is you get XBL Silver for free and that's all you need if you're going to download any emulators or patches. |
