Posts: 5,094 | Price Drop Offical Like it wasn't already known as Microsoft couldn't keep a secret longer than 10 minutes, the price drop has been announced. The price points are as follows;
Core: $299.99 to $279.99 ... -$20
Premium: $399.99 to $349.99 ... -$50
Elite: $479.99 to $449.99 ... -$30
It is unknown when the price drop will take effect in Europe and Australia but the price cuts will begin August 8th. Personally, I was disappointed the Core did not receive a deduction placing at the current Wii price point but for a company that hasn't made a profit in their gaming division for over 6 years it is not surprising. The question remains, with the extended warranty and in conjunction with the price cuts, will this help MS heal the bombardment of negative PR wounds it has suffered over the entire RRoD fiasco? |

Posts: 5,094 | The very least they can do is include a memory card standard in the core package. At the very least. |

Posts: 497 | i think this is a good move by MS because they have such a good lineup for the rest of this year people that already have a 360 will be putting out a lot of money for all the good games and it will help reel in new customers

Posts: 1,579 | I think the core dropped the least because where Microsoft could probably cut the most funds from the hard drive. Since the core is stripped down already there was less room for price cuts |

Posts: 5,094 | The Core had the largest profit margin of all the other models. It could be another reason why it didn't dip as low as anticipated. |

Posts: 3,238 | It probably has a lot to do with marketing perception too. We are all conditioned to pay more for what we think to be a better product. By pricing the Core just above the Wii, MS gives the consumer the subliminal suggestion that the Core is a better product. There is a lot more to price points than margin. Its a sort of science actually.

Posts: 2,537 | there is truthiness in both sides of this coin. My grandma is the same way. If she sees 2 things side by side, she just goes for the more expencive one because she thinks it must be better. I think its silly, but there are alot of peeps out there. Well, with similar price points, i think it comes down to play styles. Which does that person want? The "fun for a short time" party style gaming, or do they like the conventional hardcore gaming? Ahh.. the problem is always choice. |

Posts: 5,094 | You sell short the publics perception of each console. The Wii is selling like Enzyte in Oklahoma and people know this. FFS, it's on my local news so inevitably this will effect the consumers decision. They may very well adopt the "Well if everyone is buying it - it must be great" mentality and purchase a prepubescent gaming system just because the entire neighborhood did. The public at large are followers and far from leaders. |

Posts: 23 | freaking A I just bought an elite last month for 500.00 now its 450! GAHH thats so lameee i have my receipt i should just be like . give me 50 dollars back! hah yea like that would work.. why does microsoft do this. upgrading over and over. and not everyone has 400.00 to spend on a halo console...you would think that they would at least make it 120 gig hard drive instead of a 20 gb wats up with that>?! kjsklajkjlfjsdajlk
oh well at least they didnt pull at a ps3 stunt and "Drop" the price by bringing out a bigger model and dropping their price of the highest price model . lamee |
