It is basically an issue mostly tied to overheating the console. Most of the newer console don't have as many problems because Microsoft has installed extra heat sinks to eliminate the issue. One tip I would give it to keep it on its side because if it is upright the airflow is cut off on the bottom vent, also don't use it on carpet put it on a flat smooth surface.

Probably not............it's an issue that Microsoft has been working to fix for a while. Apparently they know the exact cause of the problem now so I would think most available now have the heat sinks installed. Go to a big box store like Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. Somewhere that revolves a lot of product that will have the latest models.

Don't buy the core model........it is such a waste of money. If you plan on going online you NEED the hard drive.

You will know if you are getting the newest model if it has the HDMI port on the premium. It's not a big deal unless you have a HD tv but that is a easy way to tell if you are getting the lastest model. You'll probably have to look on the box yourself for the HDMI logo cuz store clerks can't even spell HDMI. Especially if you go to Gamestop or EB. (idiots)

Don't buy the store warranty either. You get a full year warranty on the 360 for any defect and 3 years on a 3 red lights/hardware failure.

You call Microsoft. 1800-4my-xbox or xbox.com They send you a coffin for it and they fix. At no cost to you.

You know what, I never buy the store warrenty either but now Im on my second 360 and I decided to buy it. From walmart, on my new elite it was only $28 for an extra two years that doesnt start until after the 1 year warrenty from MS. So that gives me three years where I wont have to send it to ms and wait several weeks to get a new one back. To me $28 is worth it.

I bought the year warranty from Gamestop but that was when it only had the 90 day warranty. Never had to use it.......thank the stars above.

No. Why pay the shipping? Why wait? I want instant gratification! Retail is gonna move more systems so you don't get one thats been sitting for months. Unless it a PS3 then that's all there is!
