Default Borrowing friend's Xbox 360, need major help

Hi everyone.

My friend approached me and asked me if I could do something for him. He plays Morrowind a lot, and wants to play the new expansions for it, but he doesn't have the internet to download them over Xbox live. I do have the internet. So he asked me if I could borrow his Xbox 360, and using his credit card and my internet, get him a Xbox 360 live account and download the expansions/etcs for Morrowind.

But I am clueless on a few things.

Is this legal? Will my friend run into any problems once I give the Xbox360 back to him? What kind of cord/slot is needed to hook up the Xbox360 to my computer? What will I have to do to get my friend a Xbox360 live account? Is the Xbox360 live membership a one-time fee, or will I have to resign from that account after I am done and ready to give the Xbox360 back to my friend?

Thanks for all the help.

For Oblivion I do believe that you have to have internet access for the downloads to even work! Which means unless your friend has internet himself than he can't use the content!

REALLY!? Oh man, he is going to be mad. Can we get a confirmation on this, please?

edit: I think the game might be Oblivion, not Morrowind. I thought that was the same game, but I think I'm wrong.

Same status, doc?

I found this information on bethsoft.com's forum:

Q. I cannot access my downloaded plugins in Oblivion for Xbox 360 unless I am connected to Xbox Live.

A. The inability to access your Oblivion Plugin content on Xbox 360 unless you are connected to Xbox Live is related to the way the license usage and restrictions are handled by Microsoft. Please refer to this article for additional information and workarounds.

Xbox 360: You cannot see or play previously downloaded premium content when you are not signed in to Xbox Live

When you download content from Xbox Live Marketplace, that content is licensed to the console you downloaded it on and the profile you downloaded it with. The console license allows anyone to use that content on THAT console, online or off. The profile license allows you to use the content on any console, as long as you're signed in to Xbox Live (the reason you have to be signed in to Xbox Live is that your profile has to be validated with the service).

For example, if you try to play your new Xbox Live Arcade game offline on a different console, you may find that it only plays in demo mode. This is because the console is not the console to which the game is licensed, and your profile can't be validated until you sign in. To play the full version on this other console, you have to sign in to Xbox Live.

For Oblivion gamers, this means that if you took your Xbox hard drive to a friends house to download the content using your own Xbox Live gamertag, the plugins may be licensed to your gamertag, but they are also tied to that specific console. As soon as you take the hard drive back to your console, if you are not connected and logged into Xbox Live with your gamertag, the content will not work. The same issue may occur if you have to replace or repair your xbox.

So, what that means is, if you have an Xbox 360 that is NOT connected to the internet, and you wish to play Oblivion with the Plugins, you can do so, but will need to take your ENTIRE Xbox 360 to an internet connection, log into Xbox Live with YOUR gamertag, and download the plugins. Then you can play the game and use the plugins on THAT Xbox 360 without being connected to Xbox Live.

If you had your console repaired or exchanged after you had downloaded the plugins, you would need to contact Microsoft Xbox support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX to determine ways to transfer the license to your new console.

I bolded the part I found important.

Okay, so what kind of cord do I need to plug this up to my computer and what kind of slot do I need to plug it into? Is it ethernet?

What website would I go to to make a x-box live account for my friend?

A standard ethernet cable from your router/switch/modem is all you need. Account creation can be done on the 360 itself.

Okay, this is what I need to do:

1) Get the xbox360 from my friend.
2) Using an eternet cord, hook it up to my modem (it has a slot for it).
3) Connect to the internet with the xbox360
4) Use my friend's credit card to get him a xbox live account. (how much does it cost?)
5) From there, use his credit card even more to buy the expansions (Shilvering Isles, etc) and patches for Oblivion.

Now do I need to cancel his xbox live account afterwards? Will it keep charging each month for it? Or is there a manditory year fee that you have to pay for any amount of time of use?

Does the above steps look correct?

go to EB games or any other retailer and buy a 3 month trail gold subscription of XBOX LIVE then hook ur 360 up to the modem with ethernet and its basic from there on and u wont be charged for anything after 3 months but if u want to buy certain things on the marketplace ull need Microsoft points to buy them so ull need to buy a xbox live points card u get like 3000 points for $20 (au) hope that helped (please anyone correct me if need be)
