Posts: 828 | Your first time..............for games! Your First Time..........for games!
This thread is where I would like to hear your story and share the story's of others relating to you very first gaming experience, or your first time. I'll kick off
================================================== =======
My First Gaming Experience.
It was Xmas, 1983, it had been a tough year, I was a whole of 7 years old (approaching 8) when my dad decided to splurge on us kids for Xmas.
Under the Christmas tree was a few large boxes, one could only assume, it wasn't clothes! So the day came, and we opened our presents.
It was.........
A CBS COLECO VISION!
WOo Hoo!
The CBS Coleco Vision (insert specs here when I get a chance) was a big black looking machine, with 2 controllers, much like a giant phone, with a numberical keypad, a round circle to move around, and a side button. Back then controllers only needed directional and 1 button.
Bundled with the machine was 1 game, Donkey Kong. It was 3 levels of madness, and in my opinion is still the best donkey kong out. The Coleco vision had games on it from Nintendo, such as Donkey Kong. It also boasted excellent graphics. So much so, they raped the Atari 2600, I kid you not. I also got Smurfs the game as well. In another box, we discovered a attachment. The CBS Coleco Vision had a expansion slot (which was conveniently utilised at launch) which took in a large looking Atari 2600. No, it wasn't a actual 2600, but a huge adaptor which basically played 2600 carts. So I had the best of both worlds, with the ability to play a 2600 cart. So Pacman was fun as well, but that was my neighbours cartridge.
It got even better, there was a 3rd box. We opened it, to discover a steering wheel, with pedals, and a copy of a game called TURBO!
It was excellent! I was so excited I beleive I did actually wet my pants my dad keeps telling me. I insist I never had time to go to the toilet that day!
Anyway, for 1983, to get a CBS Coleco Vision, Atari 2600 adaptor, and a steering wheel, with Turbo, Smurfs and Donkey Kong, it was the best christmas ever.
With that, sparked my interest in games, and the love for Nintendo with Donkey Kong being the best game out there and it looked so good.
Recently, on my XB1, I have emulators, and managed to find the CBS Coleco Vision Rom for Donkey Kong as well as the Atari version. No Comparason, CBS Coleco was way ahead of the 2600 for graphics.
I really enjoyed that Christmas, and enjoyed the machine for many years.
So how did I get to Xbox 360, it kind of goes in summary like this
1983 - Coleco Vision
1988 - NES
1993 - SNES
1998 - N64
2003 - Gamecube
2005 - DS
2005 - PSP
2005 - Xbox 1 (the birth of something beatifull - I finally built up courage to invest in the competition)
2006 - Xbox 360
2006 - Wii
2007 - Sale of Wii on Ebay (never looked back)
The future 2008 onwards, going to definately buy the new Xbox 360 successor by MS whenever its released!
That is my story, love to hear everyone elses. |

Posts: 3,238 | I remember Colecovision, but my first system was the good old Atari 2600. It came with the game Combat, which was a two player only game...no single player. Can you imagine that?

Posts: 176 | It was a wizard game on my dad's commodore 64. We went on to have an intellivision, atari 2600 and then an NES. I've pretty much been a PC gamer from then until this year.

Posts: 828 | Its amazing to see the diversity of when people got into games,
I was 1983, Fried Karma was probably just before that given he had Atari 2600.
Some users didn't get on board till Xbox 1, and others, the magical NES back in 1985!
Amazing the diversity.
We should have a experience point ranking next to our gamer ID's, ie like if you started gaming in 1979 ie Pong, you get a ranking in experience of 100 points (full Rank). And for every year to the present its adjusted. So if your a kid whose first machine is a 360, expect a measly 5 or so gamerpoints!
I think we could be onto something here.
Then we'll know whose really a noob, and whose a veteran!
Keep the information coming guys.

Posts: 792 | My uncle was into Computer as a hobby since the 70s. I was born 1978 and so I grew up in the 80s watching him tinkering with computers and more importantly with games. I think my very very first game experience was called Zork or Zorn, something like that, and it was text only which I thought was cool because I was into Reading alot of books at a young age.
I can recall a few other PC games from my early days like
Trolls and Tribulations
Clownomania
kings Quest <-----First RPG I played
Gunship 2000
Battletech: Crecent Hawks Inception
Wolfenstein<----- first FPS that set me onto that Genre
Battle of Britain <-----my first flight sim that hooked me on the Genre
Elder Scrolls II Morrowind
Wing Commander series
Star Trail: Realms of Arkania
Myth: the fallen lords <-----track down the developers if you're curious!
My uncle had an Atari and an Intelivision with various games that I cannot recall besides Burger Time, Dreadnaught Factor, Asteroids and Spyhunter.
My uncle then got the original NES with the robot and gyroscopes that pressed the red or blue lever to play games. I played through most of the classics. like Duck Hunt, Rygar, Kid Icarus, Zelda, etc etc etc etc
The NES was my only console gaming until after 2001. I played through all genre's of PC gaming with the exception of sports. I stuck mainly to RPGs, Shooters, Racing games, and Flight Sims. I was mixing it up BIG TIME on hundreds of Quake/Doom Servers for a long time. I got into X-wing VS, Tie Fighter online as well for a long time. I joined up with a squadron that had a website and when you registered to join them the website would randomely generate a 3 digit pilot number in the squadron and mine was 666 which was kinda cool to me as a teenager. I played Starcraft for literally thousands of hours online. I would also have to count my Quake online play time as well over 1000 hours.
The PC games were on the brink of really getting to be Mainstream and AWESOME when i moved cross country and had to leave my custom built top end circa 1999 PC behind to pay off a debt. I was busy working alot and didnt have free time then I met up with my wife in 2000 and she ended up getting me a Playstation for christmas so I cut through most of what they had to offer and then In 2003 I made the leap to the Original Xbox because of Halo and Elder Scrolls III Morrowind.
Then I had some limited access to a PS2 and played through the hot/popular titles. I ditched my original Xbox ind ecember right after the 360 launched because I had hopes of immediatly upgradng but unfortunately the cash got diverted to other uses and I was stuck waiting until Septerber about 1 year after the 360 launched before I finally got mine. Despite this being my 3rd 360due to faulty 360s that were replaced at the store or by Microsoft covered under warranty I would NEVER consider not owning a 360.
Halo CE and Morrowind made me buy the original Xbox
Oblivion made me buy my 360 also knowing Halo 3 was in development helped

Posts: 28 | I don't really remember exactly but I had
1990's- Sega Genesis, N64, SNES, some other sega systems, and NES (my grandparents had it and I played the duck hunting game a few times.)
2002-Xbox 1
2005-early 2007 was my computer gaming era
2007-Xbox 360
All the segas and nintendo systems were my older brother's.
I'm only 13 so I don't have much gaming history, lol.

Its your heritage.
