Yes and no. Great game! One of the best of 2007 so far but the hype reached epic proportions. Maybe it's just me, I may be getting old, but it's just a game. Forgive me if I don't pitch a tent anymore like I may have done in my younger years. Is it fun, yes. Will I play it more than any other game, yes. However, the gaming media, Bungie, and MS acted as if the release of Halo 3 would usher in the Second Coming.

In my opinion? Yes. I do think the amount of hype was getting a tad insane but there hasn't been anything disappointing in the game so far.

Love it.

Theres a suprise!

And the hype was just to much, the ***ness proportions of fanboyism and hype turned me off this game, its very good but i dunno. Its just to much.

If the game cured cancer and Aids and solved world hunger then perhaps the hype was rightly put, but otherwise **** off MS

I agree with Scotracer the hype did get kind of crazy, but the fact is it is still a great game. And in my honest opinnion it is a better game then H2. So I think it lived up to the hype to a certain extent.

Sony is already in the process of doing the above quoted.

I think there was a crapola load of hype, more so than what GOW got.

I will be honest here, I was actually put off GOW because of all the hype. I then got the game and fell totally in love with it!

Now theres Halo 3, given I haven't played Halo 1 or 2, I was pretty openminded about hte game.

I am enjoying online and solo (chapter 1's been a blast, I've done it 3 times thanks to my save errors).

But do I think its Game of the Year.

In Short = No.

I think Bioshock gets the No 1 spot for Single Player Game of the Year
I think COD4 is the game to beat, even though we've just played the Beta, its still the best online game for 2007.
I cant rank GOW for 2007 game as its a 2006 title, but this is the best game on 360 to date, for Multiplayer goodness.

Thats my take, let the flaming begin!

I've been getting sick of hearing this, so I'm going to address it out right. The amount of hype a game has is irrelevant to its merit as a video game. Either a game is good or not. For someone to say that they dislike Halo 3 because of the amount of attention it's gotten is moronic.

If you care to measure the merit of the game against the anticipation or expectations, by all means go ahead, but you cannot use hype as a means to discredit the merit of something. That's illogical.

That being said, the hype for this game was immense. It was not, however, on the level of promising salvation to anyone. Let's all put the hyperboles away for a second and realize that the absolute most any sane person ever expected Halo 3 to be was the greatest video game ever. That may sound lofty, but seeing as how it is now the best selling piece of entertainment ever, and that I have yet to find any glaring weakness in the game... well, maybe it just is the best game ever. Maybe, that much we have to consider. And if it is, then it certainly lives up the hype.

No. Thats the short answer.
Nothing could live up to the Halo 3 hype; that thing was so huge it had it's own ecosystem.

It's a shame the hype has left a few people disappointed as I think Halo 3 is a truly brilliant game. Put it this way: when the Xbox 360 is on it's last legs and we are all pumped for the Xbox720 (or whatever they decide to call it) I'll still be playing this game every week.
I had a 14 player match last night on Sandtrap that was hands down the best fun I have ever had on Xbox live. I mean I was literally as giddy as a schoolgirl sniffing the art-room glue.
