You can't plug it in to your PC in the way you suggested. You'll need to plug the 360 directly into your router. Unless you have a specialized set up, your PC does not "pass-through" your internet connection. If you want to remain wireless, you need the MS adapter for $100.

I am guessing by "wireless PC connection" you mean that you have a wireless router. If that's the case, and the router is close to where your pc and your xbox are, then all you have to do is take the network cable that you plugged into your pc, and plug it into one of the open ports of your router instead and you're good to go. If your router is in a different room or too far away from the xbox to reach with a network cable, then you have to, as suggested, by the wireless adapter for the xbox from microsoft.

Plugging the cable into your pc accomplishes nothing other than filling the network port on your pc.

I've just purchased an Xbox 360 and was wondering the best way of going 'online'.

How have you seasoned gamers done it? A quick guide would be great
