Default Is it safe to get a 360 yet???

I am new to the Xbox world, comming from a PS2. I have been wanting a 360 for some time, but I am hesitant with the red light failure thing going around. I heard of stories like "yeah mine stopped freezing when i put my fan blowing on it". wtf?

1. Has Microsoft corrected this?

2. Also, do i still get a 3 year microsoft warranty I have been reading about?

3. Hows the graphics performance compared to the PS3? I have a 1080i LCD 42" TV w/ HDMI.

I basically want to start off playing halo 3 and nascar 08, then migrate over to Xbox live. Thanks for the help!

Of course it's safe. Microsoft just took a loss in the billions and extended the warranty to 3 years. Some people have had a launch console since November 2005 and have had no problems, others have had theirs for 2 months and have gotten the RRoD.
If you want a PS3 pay the extra money and get it. But I'll tell you that you'll be buying a Blu Ray player not a gaming console. If you want to game, Xbox is no doubt the best decision.
