Unhappy Question about the connect button

I've just bought Guitar Hero 3 for my 360 and I'm having a problem getting the guitar controller to connect.
My question is that when the connect button is pressed on the console should the ring of light spin as mine does not.
If this is a fault does anyone know how to fix this problem or will I have to return it to Microsoft.

You have to press it on the 360 AND the controller.

I have pressed the button on the console and on the guitar controller, still no joy. This is the second guitar controller I've tried so I'm sure this is not the fault.
I press the button on the console (no ring of light flashing or anything), then I press the button on the guitar (the light spins on the controller but then that stops and just flashes) with no connection.
Should the ring of light on the 360 spin when I press the connect button on the console??
My two wireless controllers work fine, please help.

did you sync the controller to your console? they won't connect if you don't sync them first.

What do you mean by sync, pressing the connect button on the 360 and then pressing the connect button on the guitar controller??
This I am doing with no joy.

you are pressing the connect button on the BOTTOM of the guitar right? not the xbox button that you use to turn it on. Press the small connect button on the xbox, then the small connect button on the guitar and should sync up no probs. Also it gives more detail in the manual if you're still having trouble
