i think you should donate the money you would have spent on a video game console to a charity instead. someone needs that money more than you. people in your country are dying because they don't have enough money for food. don't be selfish. but video games are fun. almost as much as hookers. buy a hooker instead. the STD you'll get is a gift that keeps on giving.

Dude, why buy used. In a few days after you buy used, you'll be posting a thread about the three red lights on your used console, followed by MS wont cover me cause its been modded or tampered with, then you'll be screwed.

Sorry, I dont beleive in buying second hand consoles, I'd strongly advise you to save up for a new pro, or at least get a new Arcade, and add the HDD later.

i bought mine used off Ebay with top games for an excellent price. a year now with no RROD. i called MS once to ask about something on live and they registered the serial number to me. so if anything does happen to it they will take care of it.

I also am not a fan of buying used. Also the extra money for the elite is a bit of a waste unless you really think you will use the extra storage which you probably wont unless you download xbox originals, full length movies etc... I say go with the Pro, best bang for buck IMO.

used disks/games/movies is one thing...but a used system would be a tough sell to me.

most people just treat their stuff like crap, and you don't know what you'll be buying. outside might be nice, but you don't really know whats been done to the inside.

but if you got it covered by MS, then, sure, why not?

If you are insistent on buying a used 360, have the seller provide you with the serial number, so you can ring MS and see if there are any bans in place on that consoles serial number.

SOme people who have been banned as a result of software or hardware mods, try to flogg off their consoles, so it doesn't hurt to check.

Also, remember, you only get 1 year factory warranty, and 3 years for RROD. Note allot of people also have faulty power supplys that intermediately come on and off, or dvd drive errors that may cause lots of dirty disc messages or even scratch your disk.

You really are taking a gamble.

But one thing no one has answered is:
1. How much is a new Core unit in the USA?
2. How much are you potentially able to spend on a used unit in comparason?

If I can work out the difference in cost, you can then use that to decide whether its material or not in the over scheme of things etc.

this is what i paid for mine a year ago from Ebay from a guy with 100% seller rating, and everything that was included: $350 for unit with 20gb hd, RSV, GOW, MotoGP, Madden 07, Fight Night 3, 2 controllers

you offer some good advice. i didn't think to check the serial #. and it is a gamble. Ebay has been good to me so far and i got lucky on this great deal with no problems. i'm just saying what i do and don't necessarily encourage everyone else to do the same. but if you can find a new unit/game/whatever online for less than in the store, i say do it.

xbox 360 core/arcade is about 270-300 depending on where you look. 350 for the pro, or whatever it is called now.

used ftl i've never considered a used primairly because it's used and nearly and partly worn out. Buying new is the safer way.

whatever you buy - make sure it has a 175w power output and then at least you know it's a 'Falcon' board...to date, Falcon's seem to have a very low rate of breakdown (<10%) which - while not as low as Nintendo - is pretty damn low...

...and I don't believe the hype that PS3 failures are less than 3% - i think they're closer to 7% if you include freezing (which aren't considered 'breakdowns') and faulty drives.

I wouldn't bet on it, my Elite died only a few weeks ago.

My Tip, is to buy a console built in 2008.

How to check?
Grab a console off the shelf, and on the box itself, there is a small flap. Lift it up, to reveal the serial number. You will see just above the serial number is the consoles MF date, ie 2008-01-27, for example.
You want to ensure the MF date is sometime in 2008, cause pretty much this guarantees its a Falcon M/board.

Some people say to check the power supply rating on the box. But I have heard reports of newer consoles from 2008, saying the have a 203W power supply when in fact inside the box its a 170W power supply, they just haven't updated the stickers.

So always go by the MF date.

My Elite was MF on 2007-06-29. It appears Elites started getting the Falcon chips from 1 July onwards, talk about missing out by 2 days!

So in Summary, ensure MF date is post 2008 and you'll be right.
