Exclamation E3 2008 is Officially in the Books, What did you Think?

So yesterday was the last chance for game developers and publishers from around the world to impress gaming press. Now that the show is officially in the books we began to wonder if their goal was met, did E3 '08 live up to the hype?

Let's use this thread to discuss the show in general, how well did Microsoft meet our expectations, what was your favorite game of E3 2008, biggest disappointment, etc.?

I will be posting mine next week but wanted to see what the community thought of the Media and Business Summit!

Overall, not bad. It seemed things were more focused on peripherals and services than actual games, but we still saw some cool stuff from some great titles. I personally thought the new Prince of Persia game stoled the show.

One complaint: Microsoft yanking Bungie and their announcement. Here's hoping it shows up at PAX.
*sig delayed until further notice... or someone volunteers to make me one... more likely the former than the latter*

I thought this year's E3 was a bit weak on the game front tbh. Yes, there were some big title's announced - but it seemed like a lot of the announcements were rather status quo - nothing really new or innovative.

The keynotes were particularly soft this year although I'd say Microsoft definitely had the most interesting event (even if it was a bit strange in places) but then - it wouldn't be a true Microsoft presentation if there weren't campy moments with a high 'WTF' factor.

Agreed, although a few of Sony's games (MAG in particular) stood out. Definitely wish there would have been more games announced however. Although I'm not a Halo fan I'd like to see when they are working on. I still feel the universe has a lot of potential and I'd like to see where they take it. A squad based Halo could work out to be great. Overall I think Microsoft had the best conference although Sony was right there. The nudge that I feel put MS in front was the FFXIII announcement. Nintendo doesn't even deserve to be mentioned as they were incredibly lacking. Most announcements were on the service front, many of which were pretty interesting. The Netflix deal as well as Sony's video service stood out. There was some interesting news but nothing that really stood out to me as WOW.

I think MS stood out more this year. Nintendo basically didn't show up. Nothing on the games front did much for me from Sony, but it wasn't bad either. Sony does have a couple exclusives worth looking at. The Sony video service sounds pretty good, but they're a little late to the party with this. Since I'm a Netflix member, the MS deal with Netflix for me is outstanding. For those that aren't Netflix members or who don't want to be, this won't mean much.

I'm actually looking forward to quite a few games that MS showed. Not much into Final Fantasy, but that's a huge deal for many. I loved Oblivion, so for MS to secure exclusive right to the DLC for Fallout 3 is great. Looking forward to the exclusive DLC for GTA IV. Fable 2 looks great. As does Gears 2 and Halo Wars. Too Human is growing on me. While not exclusive, Resident Evil 5, Farcry 2, Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia, Dead Space, and Project Origin all look like keepers. I prefer the 360 version of the multiplatform titles anyway, since for the most part they perform better, have better GamingGamingGamingGamingGamingGaming play, and have achievements. Banjo Kazooie might turn out to be a fun game and Left 4 Dead sound interesting. Both of which you can't find on the PS3. Nor can you find the new Portal XBLA exclusive game on the PS3.

The new Xbox interface shows promise as well. All in all, I'd say pretty solid, if you're an Xbox owner, average if you're a PS3 owner, and "what happened to Nintendo?", if you're a Wii owner.
