Default The XNA movement is about to be unleashed!

User-created Xbox Live games to cost as low as $2.50, devs get up to 70% revenue - Joystiq

I am really excited about this and I think it's the best thing Microsoft has ever done for the gaming industry.

Soon - we will have access to trial and buy hundreds of indy games developed by hobbie developers using the XNA dev kit.

The games will cost as little as 200 points and will offer an intense diversity to the Xbox world that could transform the indy games movement into a massive success. Best thing is that developers will get to keep 70% of the profit!

When you consider that old classics like Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem and Doom were born of the independant games movement, it's exciting to think what the XNA environment could generate for the gaming world - and it's sorely overdue.

screw that this is incredible. There was an awesome article on how difficult it was for the indi devs to get n+ on xbox live arcade. They stated several times that the project was almost scrapped from xbox live NUMEROUS times. and the game was a major hit. For people like me who are software engineering majors and don't want to end up writing bank code this is a dream. The fact that i can get involved and possibly publish my own games which could in future land me a job is amazing. And thats just from a game dev point of view. From a gamers point of view its even more awesome to know that we could possibly experience some incredible games that we would have never gotten to play. so i'm kinda pumped as you can tell

i can't see any real threat to limiting distribution (unless you Australian) because there's not a lot of legal mumbo jumbo in the way unlike large-studio titles. I'd imagine the T&C's are quite straightforward for developers who are just happy to get their titles out. It's exciting times for me - it's like it's 1991 all over again and I'm really pumped about what's around the corner!

Some great sneak-peaks of the debut XNA games here: GDC: Games Montage

I think I might chip for Rocketball and JellyCar the minute they come out.

One thing this brings to the table is it allows for real competition among developers. Before the entry barriers were too big to allow free market competition to be realistic.

This is awesome news actually.
