Based on a late-2006 estimated release date for both Sony and Nintendo’s home consoles, the analysts “expect Microsoft to sell 19.6 million Xbox 360 units, with the PlayStation 3 and Revolution trailing at 15.5 million and 5 million units, respectively,” through 2008. Despite Sony’s late start, “the PS3 is expected to accelerate quickly and lead all systems with 8.5 million units sold in 2008.” The PSP and “the combined Game Boy line” (which includes the DS) should also run neck-and-neck in 2006, 2007, and 2008. By 2008, “new revenue streams like in-game advertising and online downloads will grow 500 percent.” | So essentially they are saying the XBOX 360 will have a lead due to launching early, and once the PS3 is released and underway that the PS3 will topple the XBOX 360 lead. Two things come into play here.
#1 these are analysts and yes they have tons of research, but they don't always get it right who is to say the 360 will even sell that many? Many people are happy with this GEN and not having to invest 600+ dollars to get some new games. If the PS3 launches in spring like they state and can deliver on the promiss of those Early PS3 demos many people might just wait it out and get a PS3...
Lucky me Im getting both and have already paid off the 360 an extra controller, and 5 games...
I think the XBOX 360 will gain a ton of marketshare but will not topple the Sony machine this gen.. Thats not a bad thing if M$ gains 30-40% share compared to thee % now than Microsoft has to be happy. You can make a ton of money in this game as #2. I think it will take M$ another cycle of consoles to topple Sony, as they need to build a reputation..
