you should be good. if you have a laptop or anything to test the signal in the basement do that first. If the signal is really weak it will be torture i promise.

well i use wireless personally and there are no connection issues. but with basements the insulation can cause connection issues. Buy one, make sure it can be returned, try it. if it works great, if not take it back and start looking into running a wire through the basement floor or soemthing. How many floors are separating the 360 and the router?

Ya good idea, and it's only one floor, and also how do you get xbox live? do you have to go to a store and buy it, or do you just sign up and they send you a bill.

you can either purchase a prepaid card from a store. Or you can use a credit card via your xbox.

Yes, just plug in the wireless adapter, and you're good to go!

when i lived in my old house i had the same situation.at first i went wireless but got sick of horrible lag. so i went and bought a 50 foot cat 5 cord and ran it through the kitchen, down the stairs, and through three rooms. it was a lot cheaper and way less lag

Your best bet is just to use an Ethernet cord, the prices range from 20-50 dollars for a 50ft cord. In fact I'm using a 100ft cord that goes around my house lol. Works pretty well, doesn't lag, and is more reliable then wireless.

So unless your really sure your router is close enough to your xbox, go with the Ethernet cord.

No, If you get a wireless adapter you aren't just good to go. You first need to make sure your router is optimized for Online play and you also need to make sure your router and computer's firewall are set for online play. You also need to make sure all settings are correct to be able to start playing.

Relating to your other question.
You can buy subscription cards from game stores such as Gamestop. You can buy a 1 month, a 3 month, or a 12 month code. Its better just to get the year code as it works out much cheaper.

You can also purchase your subscription via the xbox live marketplace, All you have to do is Create Account -> Xbox Live Gold -> Select Subscription -> Done.

Be warned you will need to use credit/debit card information. So it would be safer to get your subscriptions from the game stores.

it's kind of expensive but i guess if it's what you have to do it should work... the bridging connection trick works nicely too but you do need a laptop like the other guy said

I've had nothing but problems with bridging, plus it's going to be a bit slower as you need to change networks.

Best option is a straight Ethernet cable from your xbox to the router.

Second best is the wireless adapter. It was adequate to play halo in matchmaking usually without lag.

Another option if the wireless doesn't work and you don't want cables strung around the house. Are 'Homeplugs'. If you google it you'll find loads of different ones and some even advertise the fact that you can play xbox over them. Amazon is a good place to start. They can be a bit expensive, but its another option.
