I doubt XBL will go free during the 360's lifetime. Perhaps with their next console they will completely overhaul the service and make it free, but don't count on that being in the near future.

I really doubt it, there are 9.5 million Xbox live gold customers at $50 a year. That's a lot of cash.

I seriously doubt it'll ever be free to play online. If it does become free then the quality might drop.

it wont be free. xbox loses money on consoles. They make their money from games accessories and of course LIve subscriptions

no hell no. sonys are free and how often do you hear about there great community or amazing online activiities.... ah thats right, its bank! cause they dont ask there users to pay

Nope it won't be =( but its necessary to pay for it, so that it remains to the high standard we get so far, just go silver if you don't to pay for it, not a great deal of difference anyway if you don't play online games...
