Revolution is listed as starting slow (500,000 units sold in 2006), and lagging behind its competition with 2 million and 3 million systems moved in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
.....???

I'd like to see the full report, that one is a bit inconclusive in my opinion. I think the Revolution will be a bit more popular than what they have posted. I think with the 3rd party support picking up for MSoft, they will have a few more million consoles sold by 2008, especially when the other 2 console sell at about the same time, and MSoft releases 2 generation of games on a console that will take a price cut just to keep ahead. Quite frankly, I don't see PS3 taking off until the 2nd or 3rd price cut on their system, and when more games become available. I do see a new interest evolving with Nintedo.

Sorry, I'm taking this report with a grain of salt.

That's a somewhat low level of supplies purchased...I mean less than 20 million? That can't be correct. There's too many gamers worldwide to let that number be so small.

My predictions:
thru 2008

xbox 360: 27-33 million

ps3: 25-29 million

revolution: 15-18 million

This also provides for an intersecting with ps3 and xbox360, depending on how well xbox360 and ps3 advertise and appeal to the public, respectively.

I also think Nintendo will do better than forecasted. They have a loyal fan base, not to mention their games are designed more for children. Parents don't have to worry as much about the game content.

Casual gamers may sometimes go for the friendly price too.

analysts are known to be usually pretty far off on #'s. They can sometimes get the ordering right but never the #'s. They only have jobs because wallstreet uses them to sell stocks. Thats really all its for take what they say with a grain of salt and dont sweat it.

thats just not gonna happen. Wishful thinking but still doesn't mean it'll happen. Even gamestores are saying noone cares or asks much about the revolution. Nintendo basically has become a niche now that has its underground following and thats about it. There days inthe mainstream are pretty much over and they dont seem to be pushing or care to get back in it. They just are doing their own thing. I know too many Sony fans that'll dump 600 and go broke on a PS3 than would spend 150 on a Revolution (figuratively speaking if those were the prices) And that is a rather overwhelming consensus among them. Even the current market reflects this, the gamecube was always cheaper and it never dug itself out of 3rd. That wont be changing with a new generation there fanbase has dwindled and younger gamers dont even care for them as they weren't even alive during Nintendo's glory days.

If you read this article here:

Quote:
Based on a late-2006 estimated release date for both Sony and Nintendo’s home consoles, the analysts “expect Microsoft to sell 19.6 million Xbox 360 units, with the PlayStation 3 and Revolution trailing at 15.5 million and 5 million units, respectively,” through 2008. Despite Sony’s late start, “the PS3 is expected to accelerate quickly and lead all systems with 8.5 million units sold in 2008.” The PSP and “the combined Game Boy line” (which includes the DS) should also run neck-and-neck in 2006, 2007, and 2008. By 2008, “new revenue streams like in-game advertising and online downloads will grow 500 percent.”
So essentially they are saying the XBOX 360 will have a lead due to launching early, and once the PS3 is released and underway that the PS3 will topple the XBOX 360 lead. Two things come into play here.

#1 these are analysts and yes they have tons of research, but they don't always get it right who is to say the 360 will even sell that many? Many people are happy with this GEN and not having to invest 600+ dollars to get some new games. If the PS3 launches in spring like they state and can deliver on the promiss of those Early PS3 demos many people might just wait it out and get a PS3...

Lucky me Im getting both and have already paid off the 360 an extra controller, and 5 games...

I think the XBOX 360 will gain a ton of marketshare but will not topple the Sony machine this gen.. Thats not a bad thing if M$ gains 30-40% share compared to thee % now than Microsoft has to be happy. You can make a ton of money in this game as #2. I think it will take M$ another cycle of consoles to topple Sony, as they need to build a reputation..
