Angry Why Do We Have To Pay For New GamerTag Names?

It's basically a rip off to pay 800 Microsoft points to change your X-Live name . Microsoft should let you change your name for free once a year. No earlier than a year because then it would be tough to remember names when they constantly change.

Filing complaints on friends in not.....

The point is not to change your name every chance you get, but to get the name that is perfect for you that you like.

It's easy: M$ loves cash. No really, if anyone could change it without paying, it would be really hard to keep track of friends and the XBL friend system would be a mess.

Edit: Just noticed the year thing: Yeah that would be a really good idea. (Gotta start reading >.<)

You bring up a good point. I agree with the free name but instead of every year, make it every time you renew your membership then you get the option to change your name for free.

I agree as well. I've known people that have created an account, and then a few months later they regretted naming it whatever they did. About the renewal thing, it shouldn't be each time you renew it because some people (like me ) buy the 12+1 Month subscription cards--it should happen bi-annually (twice a year, not once every two years).

Default RE: Why do we have to pay for new gamertag names?

If you want to change your gamertag, there are loopholes that will allow you to change it for free so you don't have to spend 10 bucks or 800 ms points. The way to do that is to get people on your friends list to file a complaint on your tag. And if enough people file a complaint on your tag. Then xbl will force you to change your tag for free. Hope this helps you out.

Yes that can be ridiculous.
Sure reporting works too.
But it's a hassle.
Twice a year sounds reasonable.
PETITION TIME!

I think this would work out fine:
Free Gamertag change once per 8 months
800 MSPoints to change once per 48 hours
or just the old file a complaint trick lol...

TBH, you shouldn't be changing a tag all that much anyways. And paying to change it will force people to change their tag less often. Thus, you can keep track of who's who, and everyone will stick with a tag, not changing it continuously. It was a smart move of MS part.

Default name changes

Well it is quite oblious why they charge money. just because they can. My friends have been through twenty or so changes. Other reasons are like file copying to the new name and they do a little work to. Not much though.

Microsoft only cares about money. Would it be awesome if they let you change your gamertag every twelve months? Of course. It would make it so much nicer when you come up with a great name. But will they ever do something like that? I think not.

I'm already confused with all the namechanges in my friends list. Making it free would be... VERY confusing. I don't see any reason to change name, choose a good one the first time! And if you'd regret your decision, you could change it, but you'll have to pay for your stupidity (not choosing what you want). Really, I don't have any problem with this.

its to stop people from changing it all the time. You werent even allowed to change it on the xbox and people were able to deal with it so its a service for them to let you now. No big deal.

Microsoft loves its money, so I highly doubt that. It would be nice for every year or two allow people to change their name, and then charge money otherwise, or allow one free change. Otherwise it gets too hectic.

The main reason they have that feature is so that rich people will give in to eventually changing their name. IMO I think that sticking with your original game is the go. Just because you've changed your name from SuP3r L1oN to xXx.SuperHaxor.xXx it won't make you any better at a game. Actually if you had an annoying name like the Super Haxor one than I would target you because your name stands out.
