Video goes static, extreme saturation with green/blues
Well, this is my second xbox360 in a month, and I've already gotten problems within a week of getting a new one. This time, I thankfully haven't gotten the dreaded RROD, however, I have managed to acquire a mystifying problem. Every once in a while my video picture will get fuzzy, with lots of static and with extreme saturation of blues/greens. This goes away immediately after a quick on/off, but it requires me to drop what I'm doing and restart, which is not convenient. I have a feeling its probably the AV cables, as I have been switching them in/out often, and once they were quite forcibly ripped out at an odd angle when my TV took a tumble. And anyway, my current console is only 2.5 weeks old. It seems to happen most when a lot is onscreen, eg. a fusion coil explodes in front of my face in Halo3. But it also has happened to me right as I turn on my console. So, anyone know whats going on? Had this problem? Will continuing to play affect my console? I can't quite send my console to MS yet, and I'm not sure if I'm under warranty (I got it from an ebay seller). I'm willing to just buy a new AV cable, but they aren't cheap, and I rather not waste money on it if it isn't needed.
Have you tried your console with another tv? If it's not the tv you could try new av cables, but that may not be it. There is always the slightest chance that it could be something with the 360 itself. Have any friends that you could try their console with your av cables or their av cables with your console?
Yes, it's likely that it's the AV cables but before you order new ones, don't miss the troubleshooting step of trying out your av cable in another TV, and another Xbox360 for good measure.
A new update, my picture upon turning on is plagued by numerous, thin black lines and strange dark contrast, seems to come and go, but very persistent. I'm getting a new cable
Lesson learned: don't screw around with your cables, or they'll screw around with you.
Did you ever try changing the resolution? My TV use to sometimes get this blue and red static that would get to the point where I couldn't see anything. Whenever that happened, I would change the resolution from 1080i to 720p, and it would stop. The next day, I would put it back to 1080i and it would be fine. It hasn't happened in a while though.
well, my cables are due july 2-8, so I'll post a result. Recently, I got an E74, but a restart later it disappeared and hasn't returned since. As I remember from my first ill-fated xbox, the e74 denotes a failure of either the video chip, from faulty solder or otherwise, or a faulty AV cable, I can only hope its the cable. As for resolutions, i got my tv from a friend who was getting a new one, so its older, the kind that takes a bit for the picture to warm up, and i'm not sure if it can even change resolutions. I'll try and look though.
An interesting note: I've found it can come and go, sometimes disappearing without a restart, but I've never gotten it while streaming netflix, and sometimes it will go away when I start watching one. It may be a coincidence, but I'm not entirely sure.
it sounds like your inline with the 1000s of other xbox gamers (i'm one) to get the E74... its not only because of the scaling chip and bad solder, its the new NXE dashboard, i've read hundreds of blogs and topics, and it all comes to this its gonna happen to all of us (i'm one) the E74 aka new RROD....
Microsoft hasn't released statistics, but some people place the e74 error as high as 33% of all consoles. As in for every three consoles, one of them will have the e74 error. Microsoft needs to step up their game, if they want to keep competitive and have a loyal fanbase...
there was a site that did a poll on the E74, it said 43% of E74 has happened since the release of the new NXE "new xbox experience", the new dash board from what i take of it, might be overloading the scaling chip, why do we need dumb avatars anyway??? if u want to tinker with avatars get a Wii.....at an idle the xbox is working hard to display all that new stuff On the NXE, remember the more happening on your screen the more heat your making....
Well, I do remember I played hours, maybe even days in total last summer/spring on my friends xbox pre NXE and he had never had a problem, and he had one of the original or very early 360s. I havent seen him in awhile but now I'm surprised he never got the RROD. Meanwhile, my cables came! damn fast shipping, ordered on saturday, came to NJ from Tennessee, standard. K, so I've done 3 restarts so far and no problems at the NXE welcome/loading screen, where the issue pops up often, so that's good. Later I'll try some cold starts and see if it changes. As for now, I'm going to play some worry free halo
aaaarrg. after an hour or so after I left it to cool, and its back at it again. goddamn it I am tired of this. I'm going to continue to test it, to see if it was an isolated incident, or whether it'll repeat. If I can, this consoles being shipped back to where I got it from if the video problems happens again. I'm tired of this bull****. I bought this goddamn thing May 17th and I've had problems ever since. I'd just like to play it without being interrupted by some hardware failure. Its not like I'm maltreating this thing. Hell, since I turned it on its been up on a stack of dvds to let all the vents cool it. But it still finds ways to break. And now that I'm out of warranty from my ebay buyer, I'm ****ed. 157$ and days of work trying to get this to work out are gone, because microsoft is too cheap a ****er to insure its products can work. Its not like I can't take care of it, i've had a nintendo gamecube since 2003, which was designed around 2000, and that thing works flawlessly. I think the only way I could get a hardware failure out of that is with a sledgehammer. And that thing's design is 9 years old. Since then, we've had ample time to hone our skills as manufacturers, create solid quality control and design and build gaming consoles immune to things like overheating and faulty solder. And yet we are spending hundreds of dollars on this garbage, this malfunctioning piece of ****. Well, you know what, for all the good games in the world if I'm going to have to buy another console costing multiple hundreds of dollars to play, then **** this ****. Simply **** it. I'm done with the xbox 360, and microsoft. I don't think my request is that much. Just give me a console that I can turn on with confidence, where I can join a party without having to apologize in advance if my console's video breaks down.
So there's my little rant. I'm going to keep trying, and hope it can resolve itself. If not, I'll try and get a new one from the ebay seller I got it from, or from microsoft itself.
as an update I havent had any problems in the past 2 hours, multiple cold starts, a few halo games in there too. Sorry about my little outburst there, but microsoft does that to you. Anyway, i think my xbox should be covered by MS, the mfr date was in dec 08, so it isnt that old. So if I'm willing to go cold turkey for up to a month, I can do it for free, not including shipping!
I can safely say that the new cable did nothing. :/
The problem is that i haven't gotten an error yet, so I can't send it to MS (yet). maybe forcing an overheat might get them to fix it/send me a new one.
careful with trying to overheat it just to get Microsoft's attention. you may get more complications than you bargained for. Have you tried calling the customer support just to give it a shot or to nquire what possible status errors you can report?
